Maruti And Toyota Compact Hybrid SUVs Spied - Launch Likely This Year

Maruti And Toyota Compact Hybrid SUVs Spied - Launch Likely This Year | V3Cars

It’s no secret that Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are co-developing two compact SUVs to rival the best-selling Hyundai Creta. Various reports suggest that Toyota Kirloskar will manufacture both the SUVs at their second manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Now, Maruti compact SUV (codenamed YFG) and Toyota compact SUV have been spied together for the first time.

Both SUVs seen on the spy shots feature false body panels on the bonnet, bumper, and sides. However, from the pattern of the grille on both SUVs, it is evident that the Toyota and Maruti compact SUVs will have few design differentiators.

However, what is evident is that both Maruti and Toyota SUVs will feature a split LED headlight and large air intakes. We expect both SUVs to feature unique LED DRLs, as is the case with the 2022 Baleno and upcoming Toyota Glanza. The headlights seem to be vertically stacked on Maruti’s SUV whereas the Toyota seems to have a more squarish orientation.

The Maruti and Toyota compact SUVs will offer new-age features and a premium cabin. On the inside, while the key features may remain identical, we can expect different use of materials and colour choices in both SUVs.

Both Maruti’s YFG and Toyota’s D22 will make use of Daihatsu’s modular platform, also known as DNGA. This platform is a low-cost solution over Toyota’s TNGA platform and it has been engineered keeping the emerging markets in mind. Some rumours suggest that both the SUVs will be equipped with strong hybrid technology with some amount of battery-electric range. The presence of strong hybrid tech should compensate for the lack of a diesel engine option.

Maruti and Toyota SUVs

As we stated earlier, the upcoming Maruti and Toyota compact SUVs will rival not only best-selling SUVs, such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, but also take on the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. We expect both manufacturers to announce their respective offerings around Diwali 2022.
