Mahindra Trademarks XUV100, XUV400 and XUV900 In India

Mahindra Trademarks XUV100, XUV400 and XUV900 In India | V3Cars

Mahindra recently confirmed that the W601 SUV which was earlier touted as the next-gen XUV500 will be called the XUV700. Although it will replace the first-gen XUV500 for now, the XUV500 moniker will make a comeback sometime in 2022.

Mahindra Trademarks

While Mahindra has already confirmed the XUV700, it seems like the carmaker is planning to further expand its XUV line as Mahindra has also trademarked several other names including the XUV100, XUV400 and the XUV900.

Although it is too soon to say which of the newly registered names will make it to the production-spec models, here is our understanding of how things can be going forward. The XUV100 could be the next-gen version of the KUV100 which is a micro-SUV. It could be Mahindra’s answer to the Tata HBX which is expected to go on sale later this year.

XUV400

XUV400, as the name suggests, will be slotted between the XUV300 and the next-gen XUV50. If launched, it could be a compact SUV that will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun. The XUV500, on the other hand, competes with mid-size SUVs like the Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Jeep Compass.

Coming to the XUV900, as the name suggests, it will be the flagship SUV in Mahindra’s lineup sitting above the XUV700. While the XUV700 will compete with likes of the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus, the XUV900 could be a replacement for the Mahindra Alturas G4 which is expected to go off the market due as Mahindra plans to sell of Ssangyong Motors. For the uninitiated, the Mahindra Alturas G4 is essentially a rebadged version of the Ssangyong Rexton SUV.

XUV900

With the XUV900, Mahindra might go the monocoque way and pitch it as an alternative to SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan All Space and the upcoming Jeep H6 SUV. The Alturas G4, on the other hand, is a body-on-frame SUV that competes with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

Mahindra is gearing up to launch the XUV700 by July 2021. It will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options with manual and automatic transmission options. Mahindra will also offer a 4WD option on the XUV700 but in the higher variants only. It is expected to get features like a panoramic sunroof, auto LED headlamps, connected car tech, twin display and Level 1 driving assistance systems. Prices of the XUV700 are expected to range from Rs Rs 16 lakh to Rs 22 lakh.
