Mahindra Bolero Neo Quick Walkaround Video Surfaces | V3Cars
Mahindra tried its hand with a sub-4m ladder-frame SUV, the TUV300 but it didn’t work out. Adding the longer TUV300 Plus to the offerings didn’t help either. Mahindra has literally moved ZERO units of the TUV300 in the last 15 months or since the pandemic took over.
The Bolero brand, however, commands quite a bit of respect at least among rural, tier 2 and tier 3 city buyers. The Bolero is Mahindra’s bestseller, and rebadging the TUV as Bolero is not a bad idea.
A video of the upcoming Bolero Neo recently surfaced online. Take a look:
The video shows the Bolero Neo’s exterior design, which still looks a lot like the TUV300. While the front of the Neo wears a slightly redesigned grille, the rear looks exactly the same as the TUV300.
Just like the TUV300, the Bolero Neo also gets 2 rows of forward-facing seats to accommodate 5 occupants and also has jump seats in the boot. There’s no official word on the powertrain but we expect it to carry forward the same 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine from the TUV300. In the Bolero, this engine makes 76PS of power and 210Nm of torque and comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. These figures may be just enough for the Bolero Neo since it also has a heavier ladder frame chassis. Ladder frames are a lot more abuse-friendly but they are also considerably heavier than monocoque frames. This extra weight affects their handling, performance and fuel efficiency. The ladder frame also makes ingress-egress challenging for older people and kids but it offers the quintessential high-seating position and road presence that you expect from an SUV.
We expect it to cost between Rs. 8.0 and 11.0 lakh. It’ll compete with sub-4m diesel SUVs in this price range. The Bolero Neo is more likely to do well in smaller towns as the Bolero brand commands serious respect in rural areas.
