In this July 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all D-segment cars in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all D-segment cars for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend.

D-Segment Cars July 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

  • SUVs and MPVs rule the D-segment, with the Innova,  XUV700, Carens and Harrier in the top 4 spots
  • In July, the Tata Harrier took the 4th spot from the Toyota Fortuner with higher sales numbers
  • The top 10 spots in the bestselling D-segment cars are all SUVs or MPVs
  • Together, the Harrier and Safari posted a spectacular figure of almost 5,000 units but still short of the XUV700’s 6,000+ dispatches in July 2022. 
  • MG and Mahindra don’t provide separate figures for their 5-seater and 7-seater D-segment SUVs
  • Toyota Fortuner was the top gainer, with a 67.7% rise in dispatch numbers
  • The Hector twins were the top losers in July YoY comparison, with a 44.2% decline in sales

  • In terms of MoM performance, out of the mass market cars, the Alcazar witnessed the biggest gain of 45.4%
  • The Meridian was the biggest MoM loser, with near 60% decline in sales numbers
