Jeep will manufacture the 7-seater SUV in India. In fact, India will be the global production hub for the RHD version of the 7-seater SUV, codenamed H6. The LHD version of the SUV is codenamed H1.

As reported earlier, the 7-seater SUV will share its underpinnings with the Compass facelift which recently went on sale in India. It is also expected to look similar to the 5-seater SUV at least till the B-pillar. Post that, it is likely to get a flatter roofline and longer rear doors in order to accommodate the longer wheelbase. The rear profile should also be more upright similar to what we have seen on the Grand Wagoneer concept and the Cherokee XL.

Similarly, on the inside, the cabin layout should look largely similar to that of the Compass save for an additional row of seats. Features on offer should include cooled front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone AC and multiple airbags, among others.

Under the hood, the H6 SUV is expected to get the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Compass but in a higher state of tune. While on the Compass the engine makes 170PS and 350Nm, in the H6, expect it to produce around 200PS. Expect it to be available with both manual and automatic transmission options along with 4WD option in the higher variants.

It remains to be seen if the H6 gets a petrol engine. If it does, expect it get the same 1.4-litre turbocharged engine as the Compass that makes 160PS and 250Nm.

After its debut later this year, production of the 7-seater SUV for the Indian market is expected to get underway by April 2022 followed by a launch in mid-2022. Prices are expected to range from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. It will take on likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq petrol.
