Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Crossover Spotted On Test Ahead Of Launch | V3Cars
Hyundai India are continuously testing the Ioniq 5 on Indian roads. We recently caught the Ioniq 5 on test on the KMP expressway wearing camouflage and red registration plates. Hyundai will launch the Ioniq 5 at the 2023 Auto Expo and it will go up against the likes of the Kia EV6.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 — Spied Details
Hyundai Ioniq 5 has made multiple appearances on our roads and interestingly, with HR registration plates. Generally, Hyundai test their cars with TN registered plates as their manufacturing facility is located in Tamil Nadu. Even though the car was covered in camouflage, the unique multi-spoke alloy wheels, LED tail lights and DRLs were the main giveaways..
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 — Exteriors
The Ioniq 5 takes inspiration from Hyundai’s first production car, the Pony. It gets a squarish front and rear profile, making it look a lot smaller than it actually is. For instance, the length, width and wheelbase of the Ioniq 5 are more than that of the outgoing Tucson. Thanks to the e-GMP skateboard platform, the front and rear overhangs are short. The Ioniq 5 also gets a very unique design for the alloy wheels and flush-fitting door handles for better aerodynamics.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 — Interiors
On the inside, the Ioniq 5 offers a generous amount of space. The 2 connected LCD screens sit at the top half of the dashboard whereas the AC controls sit on the lower edge. We expect Hyundai to offer the similar features in the India-bound model as the global spec.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 — Powertrain Options
Globally, the Ioniq 5 comes with 2 battery pack choices — a 58kWh and a larger 77.4kWh. With the 77.4kWh battery pack, the Ioniq 5 offers 228PS (2WD) and 325PS (4WD). The top speed of all Ioniq 5 variants is 185kmph. The 325PS 4WD variant of the Ioniq does the 0-100kmph sprint in just 5.1 seconds and offers a range of 481km. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel-drive variants have a range of 507km with a full charge.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 — Launch Details
Hyundai are likely to locally assemble the Ioniq 5 in India, at their manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. If it enters local assembly, the Ioniq 5 could undercut its cousin, the Kia EV6, by a considerable margin. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will rival other electric SUVs in the market like the BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharge and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQB.
