In this September 2022 cars sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change for the 20 top-selling cars of September 2022. Based on the data, we’ll also share our observations and possible reasons for big improvement or massive decline in sales where applicable.

September 2022 - 20 Top-Selling Cars YoY Change
- Maruti Arena Ertiga was the only loser in the top 20 selling cars in the month of September of 2022, in terms of YoY comparison. It saw a decline of 2,009 units in the number of units produced, which is a decline of 17.77% compared to September 2021.
- On the other hand, Brezza has reported the best growth numbers, a growth of 700%+ on YoY comparison.
- After the launch of new-gen Alto K10 in August 2022, Alto brand of Maruti has left others behind by a huge margin.
- The next best YoY performers in September 2022 were Swift with 375% gains, Bolero with 356% gains and Dzire with 348% gains.
- Alto and Alto K10 together saw 24,844 units sold in September. The closest behind is WagonR with 20,078 units dispatched in September, with a difference of over 4,000 units compared to Alto pair. It is worth noting that WagonR held the top spot for several months consecutively before the launch of new-gen Alto K10.
- The top 11 best selling cars in Sept 2022 sold well over 10,000 units a month.
- Over half the models on the top 20 bestselling list in Sept 2022 are from Maruti Suzuki.
- Hyundai have 4 cars in the September 2022 YoY Top 20 performers list, Kia have 2, Tata have 3, while Mahindra have 2 and Toyota have 1 car.

Sept 2022 - 20 Top-Selling Cars MoM Change
- Alto and Alto K10 twins were the best performers in the MoM comparison for the month of September, with over 70% gains in production numbers.
- The second best performer in MoM improvement comes from the Mahindra’s Scorpio brand (Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N), posting a 35.15% better figure in Sept compared to the August performance, closely followed by Kia Seltos with 27% gains in September MoM comparison.
- The worst performer was incidentally from Maruti as well (Dzire).
- Dzire saw a MoM drop of 19.1%, followed by Nexon with 3.76% MoM drop in September of 2022.
- The WagonR lost its top spot, but continued its upward MoM rise trend in Sept as well, with a growth of 9.13%.
