In this March 2023 cars sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change for the 20 top-selling cars of March 2023. Using this data, we will also provide our observations and insights on the reasons for significant improvements or declines in sales, where relevant.

March 2023 - 20 Top-Selling Cars YoY Change

Tata Tiago reported the best growth, with a gain of 84% in terms of YoY comparison
The next best YoY performer in March 2023 was the Mahindra Scorpio, with around 45% gains
The Swift was the best-selling car in India in March 2023, with over 17,500 units sold in the month of March 2023. During the same period in 2022, the WagonR was the top-selling car, with over 25,500 units sold
The top 10 best selling cars in March 2023 sold well over 10,000 units each
Maruti’s WagonR and Dzire were the top losers in the YoY comparison analysis for the month of March, with a near 30% decline in dispatches compared to March 2022
9 out of 20 models on the top 20 bestselling list in March 2023 are from Maruti Suzuki, and in March of 2023, the top 4 spots were taken by Maruti cars
Hyundai had 4 cars and Tata had 3 cars in the March 2023 YoY top 20 performer’s list. Mahindra had just 2 models and Kia and Toyota each had 1 each in the top 20 list.

March 2023 - 20 Top-Selling Cars MoM Change

The Innova nameplate was the top-performer in terms of MoM comparison analysis for the month of March, with over 93% increase in dispatches as compared to Feb 2023.
The Ertiga was the second best performer in the MoM comparison for the month of March, with a 39.5% growth in sales.
Half the cars in the top-selling cars’ list saw a MoM decline in dispatch numbers, including the top selling car – the Swift
The Alto 800 and Alto K10 from Maruti Suzuki topped the list of MoM losers, with almost 50% decline in numbers, followed by the Hyundai i20, which saw a decline of 29% in MoM comparison for March.
