BYD Seal Spied Ahead Of March Launch – Bookings Open

BYD Seal Spied Ahead Of March Launch – To Rival Ioniq 5, EV6 | V3Cars

The BYD Seal, which made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2023, is likely to launch soon. The electric sedan from BYD was spotted testing near Chennai recently and reports suggest the Seal could launch as early as March 2024.

BYD Seal

Initially set for a 2023 launch, electric carmaker BYD were forced to delay the introduction of the Seal due to multiple issues, including a hefty fine imposed by the government and homologation issues with their other EV, the Atto 3. With the Seal, BYD aim to take on Hyundai and Kia EVs like the Ioniq 5 and EV6.

BYD Seal – Design And Features

Unlike the crossover styling of its rivals, the BYD Seal is a proper 3-box sedan. Design highlights include an all-glass roof, 4 boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, LED projector headlights, flush-fitting door handles and a full-width LED taillight at the rear. The BYD Seal is 4800mm long, 1875mm wide and 1460mm high and has a wheelbase of 2920mm. It offers a boot space of 320 litres.

The most impressive thing about the Seal is its claimed range of 700km. It achieves this figure with the help of BYD’s Blade Battery technology. The BYD Seal is based on BYD’s dedicated EV platform – the e-Platform 3.0. Other highlights include BYD’s CTB (cell-to-battery) technology that integrates the battery into the body of the vehicle to improve safety, stability, handling and performance. This allows the Seal to have a 50:50 axle load distribution ratio.

In global markets, the BYD Seal comes with 2 battery pack options – 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh. The 61.4kWh battery pack supports 110kW fast chargers and offers a range of 550km while the bigger 82.5kWh battery supports fast chargers with speeds up to 150kW and offers a range of up to 700km. We will have to wait for its India launch to know which variants we will get here.

The BYD Seal, when launched, will take on the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Mercedes-Benz EQB and the Volvo XC40 Recharge in terms of price. However, its prime rival will be the BMW i4, which is the only other electric sedan in this price range. Let us know what you think of the BYD Seal in the comments section below.
