BMW X5, X6 Receive Mid-Life Update – Indian Launch Soon | V3Cars

The BMW X5 and X6 have received a mid-life update that brings improved looks, engines, and more features than before. The X5 SUV and X6 coupe-SUV are important models in BMW’s global lineup as they now compete with a host of other SUVs and coupe-SUVs from rival carmakers, including Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche and Range Rover. In fact, the X5, along with the Porsche Cayenne, kickstarted the trend of sporty yet luxurious SUVs at the start of the millennium.

Let’s take a look at what BMW has thrown at the X5 and X6 to take on the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE Coupe, Audi Q7 and Q8, the Range Rover Sport and the Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe.

2023 BMW X5 And X5 Facelift: What’s Changed On The Outside?

As far as exterior updates on the X5 and X6 go, BMW have given both SUVs a relatively minor facelift. The 2023 X5 now gets a reshaped grille, slimmer LED headlamps than before and redesigned light signature for the LED taillamps. The X5 now gets vertical air intakes and a brushed silver effect for the grille and surrounds for the air dam.

Like the X5, the 2023 X6 gets slimmer headlights with a new LED light signature anda redesigned bumper. Since the new X6 now gets the M Sport package as standard, it gets gloss black paint that extends from the grille onto the reshaped air intakes. The rear of the X6 coupe SUV remains unchanged.

BMW X5 And X6 Facelift: What’s New On The Inside?

BMW X5

The 2023 X5 and X6 facelift receive BMW’s latest version of the iDrive infotainment system. The curved display incorporates a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen for infotainment controls. The dashboard layout has been revised and the climate control now resides within the iDrive system rather than as physical knobs. Wood trim is now standard on the X5 and all variants now get a crystal gear selector. The X6 facelift, on the other hand, gets a piano black trim as standard and misses out on the crystal gear selector.

2023 BMW X5 And X6 Facelift: Engine And Transmission Specs

As far as the Indian market is concerned, we expect BMW to offer the X5 with the same engine options – the xDrive40i and xDrive 30d – as before. However, both 3.0L turbo petrol and 3.0L turbo diesel engine will receive a 48V mild-hybrid setup, which not only increases performance but fuel efficiency as well.

The 2023 BMW X5 and X6 turbo petrol puts out 375PS of power and 540Nm of torque, which is 30PS and 90Nm more than the outgoing version of the X5. Meanwhile, the X5 turbo diesel puts out 298PS and 670Nm of torque, which is an improvement of 30PS and 50Nm than before. BMW will continue to offer both engines with an 8-speed automatic transmission. 

BMW recently removed the X6 from their India lineup but it’s likely to soon make a comeback in the facelifted avatar, with the 3.0L turbo petrol engine under the hood. 

2023 BMW X5 And X6 Facelift India Launch Details

BMW India plan to launch a whole host of new and updated cars in the country this year. Of these, we have already witnessed the launch of the BMW 7 Series and its electrified version, the i7. We expect the carmaker to launch the updated M2 model in India next, followed by the X5 and X6 facelift. Hence, we can expect the updated SUV and coupe SUV to go on sale in mid-2023.

We expect both SUVs to receive a small bump in their prices. Currently, the X5 is priced between Rs. 79.90 lakh and Rs. 95.90 lakh. The X6, on the other hand, was delisted from BMW India’s website last month. But before it was taken off the market, the X6 coupe SUV was priced at Rs. 1.05 crore (ex-showroom).
