BMW i4 Electric Sedan India Unveil On April 28 | V3Cars

BMW India are set to unveil their all-electric sedan, the i4, on April 28. It will be the second all-electric car from BMW after the iX electric SUV. The BMW i4 sedan was unveiled in the global markets in June 2021 with two drivetrain options — eDrive 40 and M50.

In terms of design, the BMW i4 sedan is very similar to the ICE-powered 4 Series. It gets a large kidney grille up front and a tapering roofline above the frameless doors. In the i4, however, the kidney grille is enclosed and gets a unique pattern. The alloy wheels are optimised for better aerodynamics and range. For easy differentiation between the i4 and the 4 Series, BMW have used a generous amount of blue inserts all around the electric sedan.

On the inside, the i4 gets a new, freestanding 14.3-inch iDrive infotainment system with a virtual assistant. Other features include a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, electrically-adjustable driver and co-passenger seats, three-zone climate control, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

As we stated earlier, BMW offer the i4 sedan with two drivetrain options – eDrive 40 with a single motor and M50 with dual motors. Both the eDrive 40 and M50 make use of an 80.7kWh battery pack. The eDrive 40 gets a rear-mounted motor, belting out 340PS of power and 430Nm of torque. The M50, on the other hand, uses dual electric motors and belts out 545PS of power and 795Nm of torque. The eDrive 40 offers a claimed range of 590km whereas the M50 is not far behind, with a claimed range of 521km on a single charge. The i4 sedan can be juiced up from 0-100% in 8.5 hours with a 11kW AC charger. With the 205kW DC fast charger, the i4 can gain up to 164km of range in just 10 minutes of charge.

When launched, the BMW i4 will sit below the Audi e-tron GT range in the Indian market. Other electric sedans on sale in the country include the affordable Tata Tigor EV and the uber-expensive Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron RS GT at the other end of the scale. We expect BMW India to reveal the prices of the i4 sedan in the coming weeks.
