2024 Thar 5 Door New Details Emerge

The latest spy shots of the Thar 5 Door reveal a few key interesting details over the Thar 3 Door. Apart from the increased length and extra set of doors, the most obvious change in the new spy shots are the Thar 5 Door’s LED projector headlamps and LED fog lamps. In comparison, the Thar 3 Door offers halogen headlamps and fog lamps even in its top-spec variant. The new spy shots also show the revamped 6-slot vertical grille on the Thar 5 Door. At the rear, the latest Thar 5 Door test mule features revamped tail lamp graphics. The taillamps are likely to feature bulb-type illumination while the turn indicators could use LED elements.

Previous spy shots of the Thar 5 Door also revealed a few interior details, such as a new steering wheel borrowed from the XUV700, and a larger touchscreen infotainment system as well. These new features are likely to make the Thar 5 Door feel more upmarket than its 3 Door sibling.

Apart from the new touchscreen infotainment system, the new Thar 5 Door is also likely to offer a lot more creature comfort features over the Thar 3 Door. These features could include front and rear armrests, an updated instrument cluster, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, and a reverse parking camera.

The new Thar 5 door is likely to offer the following set of features:

  • New infotainment system
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • New instrument cluster
  • Front armrest
  • Rear armrest
  • Automatic climate control
  • Electric sunroof

An earlier image of the Thar 5 Door confirmed a single-pane electric sunroof on a metal roof for the SUV.

2024 Mahindra Thar 5 Door Powertrain Details

In terms of powertrains, we expect the new Thar 5 Door to retain the same 2.2L turbo diesel and the 2.0L turbo petrol engine options as the Thar 3 Door. However, both engines could offer more power and torque than the Thar 3 Door to overcome the extra weight. Both engine options are likely to come with manual and automatic transmission options along with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. In the Scorpio N, the 2.2L turbo diesel engine comes in 2 states of tune — 130PS and 175PS. We expect Mahindra to offer the Thar 5 Door diesel with the higher power output while the Thar 5 Door petrol is expected to produce 200PS of power from its 2.0L turbo petrol engine.

The new Thar 5 door will not have any direct rivals, save for the Force Gurkha 5 door, which is also slated for a 2024 launch.
