2023 Tata Nexon (Facelift) - 10 Features & Updates (Expected)

Next-Gen Tata Nexon 2023 - 10 New Features & Updates (Full List) | V3Cars

In this article, we’ll cover 10 new features and updates we are expecting to see in the new 2023 Nexon. The list is curated based on the spy images of the Tata Nexon 2023 and the information available from various (reasonably credible) online media. So, let’s get through the list of all we know so far about the next-gen Nexon 2023, starting with the most obvious change — design.

1. New Exterior & Interior Design

With a generation update, a substantial design change is usually a part of the package. Tata will borrow styling cues from the Curvv concept to make the Nexon appear more upmarket. The latest sightings of the new Nexon confirm this.

Naturally, the alloys will also get a design refresh but it’s unclear how they might look as we haven’t seen them without camouflage.

2. Larger 10.25-inch touchscreen

10.25-inch touchscreen

A larger touchscreen is also pretty much confirmed for the 2023 Nexon. Tata have also offered the larger touchscreen in the Red Dark editions of the Harrier and Safari. So, we should also expect the infotainment to offer a fairly bug-free experience. Since Tata introduced the larger touchscreen in their portfolio, it has been good while giving them enough time to iron out the issues before their money maker goes on sale.

3. Full-Colour LCD Instrument Cluster

LCD Instrument Cluster

In the same spy image, we can see a colour LCD instrument cluster. While it’s unclear if it’ll match the infotainment’s size or not, it’s certainly a first for the Nexon. The Altroz was the first car in Tata’s portfolio to get a 7-inch colour LCD instrument cluster. Towards the higher end of the portfolio, the Safari and Harrier also get this feature but they got it much later after their initial launch.

If the Nexon ends up getting a 10.25-inch cluster, then it will become a feature exclusive to the Nexon in Tata’s portfolio.

4. LED Projector Headlamps

LED Projector Headlamps

Besides adopting the Harrier, Safari and Punch-like design cues of having the headlamps lower in the front facia, the Nexon 2023 is also likely to get LED projector headlamps. Its white light spread will go well with the modern design. For now, it gets a halogen projector headlamp setup with a halogen reflector for the high beam.

5. Dual-Function Sweeping Turn Indicators

Besides sharing Tata’s SUV design language, the Nexon will also get its LED DRLs towards the upper end of the grille. Since a separate area for the indicators is not visible, we should assume that the DRLs will also do double duty as the indicators.

The latest reports also suggest that the indicators will be of the sweeping type. Because, why not!

6. 2x Front Side Thorax & 2x Curtain Airbags As Standard

We recently learned from Hyundai officials that according to the new testing standards, it’s mandatory to have 6 airbags even to qualify for a 4-star or better rating in GNCAP tests. To make sure the Nexon retains its 5-star rating and remains the icon for road safety, it’s safe to assume that the overhauled 2023 Nexon will get 6 airbags as standard.

Besides, Hyundai are making a visible effort to establish themselves as a safety-focused brand to challenge Tata’s might. Thus, the inclusion of 6 airbags as standard on the smaller Exter makes it a no-brainer that the safety icon of Indian SUVs (Nexon) will have to at least meet those standards.

7. New 2-spoke Steering With Backlit Logo

New 2-spoke Steering With Backlit Logo

The 2-spoke steering wheel you see in the image doesn’t seem to have a logo. But that’ll change once you turn on the car. The black centre slab will show either a Tata logo or the Tata branding or the Nexon lettering or a combination of the 2 or more of these with a white backlight.

8. 360-degree Parking camera

360-degree Parking camera

Spy shots of the new Nexon confirm a camera at the front placed dead centre in the grille. So, it’s fairly safe to assume that the new Nexon will get 4 cameras, including 2 on the outside wing mirrors, to offer a 360-degree view while parking. It’ll further solidify the Nexon’s safety angle.

9. Front Parking Sensors

Now, this one is tricky. We haven’t yet spotted the front parking sensors in any of the spy shots of the new Nexon 2023. However, certain online reports are claiming to confirm that the Nexon will indeed get this safety feature. Well, we hope it does but with a 360-degree camera, it becomes difficult to see the need for front parking sensors. It’s possible that Tata may offer the sensors in mid variants while reserving the full bird-eye camera view for the higher trims.

10. New Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission

dual-clutch automatic transmission

Tata Motors have developed a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is available with the Altroz normal petrol. Since the market for automatic transmission cars seems to have matured, Tata have the opportunity to add a dual-clutch automatic to the Nexon and thus, increase their revenue.

However, Tata only offer the 6-speed DCT with their 1.2L normal petrol engine. Even the Altroz turbo petrol with 140Nm of torque doesn’t get this transmission. So, it’s possible that this transmission may not be able to handle the 170Nm of higher torque requirements of the Nexon turbo petrol.

Tata anyways need an automatic transmission for the Safari and Harrier’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine. The online reports suggest that the Nexon 2023 may get a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There may be some truth to that. This transmission may start its journey with the (relatively) less torquey Nexon turbo petrol before proving its reliability and graduating to the Safari and Harrier turbo petrol.

Nexon Paddle Shifter

Now that even the Hyundai Exter with an AMT-type automatic gets paddle shifters, we expect the same from the Nexon 2023 as well. The small levers behind the steering we see in the image above may be paddle shifters. After all, DCT type automatics are known for their sporty nature and a pair of paddle shifters will complement that personality quite well.
