2023 Maruti Alto - All We Know So Far | V3Cars
Maruti have been testing the new-gen Alto for quite some time now. It is expected to go on sale next year. It will use a completely new platform and have bigger dimensions. It will also pack several new features.
Exterior
From the spy shots going around on the internet, the new-gen Alto appears longer, wider and taller. Maruti are expected to shift the new-gen Alto to their new Heartect platform that underpins several new Maruti cars. This transition must have allowed Maruti to increase the dimensions of the Alto without adding any weight. We also expect the new Alto to run on bigger, 13-inch wheels.
The new-gen Alto will have new headlights, grille, bumpers, taillights and tailgate. We expect the new Alto to take design inspiration from the new Celerio. Overall, the new-gen Alto is expected to look boxy and have a tallboy stance to appeal to more customers.

Interior and Features
The new Alto will likely have more space on the inside due to increased dimensions. We can expect an increase in headroom for all passengers. Increased width will allow the car to seat 3 people in the rear seat more comfortably. An increase in length should translate to more legroom and kneeroom for passengers. The overall bigger dimensions could also mean an increase in boot space.
We also expect a heavily revamped interior in the new Alto. The dashboard will likely have a new design and house a new touchscreen infotainment system. On the features front, Maruti Suzuki may offer new-age features like steering-mounted controls, rear power windows and more. To fulfil the upcoming safety norms, the new-gen Alto is likely to come fitted with 6 airbags.

Engine and Transmission
We expect Maruti to retain the 0.8L normal petrol engine for the new-gen Alto. However, we expect them to equip this engine with dual-jet technology. This could result in a slight increase in power and a significant increase in fuel efficiency. Currently, the Alto produces 47PS of power and 69Nm of torque. The 2023 Alto will continue to be offered with the 5-speed manual transmission.

We can also expect Maruti to fit the 1.0L dual-jet normal petrol engine in the new-gen Alto. If it gets the larger engine, then we can expect it to offer the same 26kmpl+ mileage figure as the new Celerio. The 1.0L engine produces 49PS of power and 89Nm of torque in the new Celerio. Along with the 5-speed manual, we can also expect the 5-speed AMT transmission in the new-gen Alto with the 1.0L engine.
The Alto will continue to get the option of a CNG powertrain. However, fitted with the dual-jet petrol engine, it will likely produce slightly more power and significantly more mileage than current Alto CNG. We can also expect the Alto CNG to come fitted with the 1.0L dual-jet engine, which produces more power.
Prices and Launch
The new-gen Alto will cost more than the outgoing model. The current generation of the Alto costs between Rs. 3.40 lakh and Rs. 5.05 lakh. The new-gen Alto is expected to cost between Rs. 3.60 and Rs. 5.70 lakh. We expect the new-gen Alto to launch in the first half of 2023.
