2023 Hyundai Verna Variant And Powertrain Details

Hyundai will offer the 2023 Verna sedan in 4 variants — E, S, SX and SX(O). While the 1.5L normal petrol engine will be carried over from the current Verna, the 2023 Verna will mark the debut of Hyundai’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Hyundai are yet to reveal the power and torque figures of this new turbo petrol engine. However, we can expect this engine to offer class-leading figures. The only other cars in the segment that currently offer a 1.5L turbo petrol engine are the Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus. In terms of transmission options, Hyundai will offer the 2023 Verna’s 1.5L normal petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol engine options with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. However, buyers will also get the option to choose a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with the normal petrol engine and a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) option with the turbo petrol engine.

Currently, Hyundai offer the 1.5L turbo petrol engine in the i30 hatchback in European markets. The 1.5L turbo petrol engine from Hyundai produces 159PS of power at 5500rpm and 253Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 3500rpm. We expect this engine to power the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Kia Carens in India. The 1.5L normal petrol engine, on the other hand, will continue to offer 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque. Furthermore, both engine options will comply with real driving emission standards and will be compatible with E20 fuel.

2023 Hyundai Verna Design Details

While Hyundai are yet to reveal the complete design of the new Verna, the carmaker has shared a couple of teaser images that give us an idea about its design. Starting with the front profile, the new Verna offers slim LED DRLs with a connected LED lightbar in the middle. We have seen this design in the Staria MPV before and it looks quite futuristic. The headlights are placed lower on the bumper along with the large front grille and big air intakes.

Around the side, the new Verna offers an elongated tail section, which hints towards an increased length over the current model. The C-pillar of the new Verna also incorporates a knurled chrome finish, which is similar to that in the Tucson. At the rear, the new Verna gets a connected LED lightbar with split LED tail lights. The lightbar merges with the LED tail lights, which form an invented L shape towards the edges. Furthermore, it also gets ‘VERNA’ lettering above the light bar.

Hyundai will offer the 2023 Verna in 7 monotone and 2 dual-tone colour options. Here are the 3 colour options Hyundai have confirmed so far:

  • Black (new)
  • White (new)
  • Brown (new)
