2023 Honda WR-V Crossover Revealed — India Launch Likely

2023 Honda WR-V Crossover Launched In Indonesia — Finally Gets The 1.5L i-VTEC | V3Cars

Honda have launched the new WR-V crossover in Indonesia. Unlike our market, the WR-V is an all-new product in the Indonesian market and it’s based on the Honda’s RS concept. The new WR-V boasts a sporty design with sharper lines than the India-spec WR-V, which is basically a Honda Jazz with a redesigned front profile and rugged body cladding all around.

At the front, the new WR-V gets a diamond-mesh grille with RS badging. It gets slimmer LED headlights with Honda’s signature LED DRLs and sequential turn indicators. The lower bumper gets sporty inserts along with LED fog lights and a faux silver skid plate. The side profile of the new WR-V showcases new 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and black wheel arch cladding. At the rear, it gets new LED tail lights, a roof spoiler, shark fin antenna and a faux silver skid plate.

Honda have revealed that the new WR-V gets a class-leading ground clearance of 220mm. Putting it in context with our market, the new WR-V’s ground clearance is more than some compact and mid-size SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Tata Harrier. As a whole, the new WR-V looks fresh and sporty over the current WR-V.

Take a look at the dimensions of the new WR-V below:

The new WR-V is longer than 4 metres and considerably wider and taller than the India-spec WR-V. However, the new WR-V’s wheelbase is 70mm shorter than the India-spec WR-V. It is worth mentioning that the India-spec WR-V is a sub-4m crossover and if Honda decide to launch the 2023 model in India, it will have to undergo a redesign to fit under 4 metres to enjoy tax breaks.

2023 Honda WR-V — Interiors And Features

2023 WR-V

The 2023 WR-V’s interior seems to take design inspiration from the Honda Amaze. The design of the dashboard, AC vents, steering wheel and other bits is shared with the India-spec Honda Amaze. However, the new WR-V offers a 4.2-inch TFT display along with an updated infotainment system featuring a lane watch camera as well. The RS model gets leather seats, an all-black dashboard and door cards, giving it a sporty feel. Sadly, the 2023 WR-V does not get an all-digital instrument cluster.

2023 Honda WR-V — Engine And Performance

2023 WR-V

The 2023 WR-V finally gets the much-awaited 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine borrowed from the 5th-gen Honda City. The naturally-aspirated motor produces 121PS of power at 6600rpm and 145Nm of torque at 4300rpm. However, unlike the India-spec City, the Indonesia-spec WR-V is not offered with a manual transmission. Instead, it is only offered with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). In comparison, the current India-spec Honda WR-V comes with the option of a 1.2L normal petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel engine. It is worth noting that the India-spec WR-V does not get the option of an automatic transmission with either petrol or diesel variants.

2023 Honda WR-V — India Launch Timeline And Rivals

Honda are yet to confirm the launch of the 2023 WR-V in the Indian market. However, the Japanese carmaker is working on 2 SUVs — a B2-segment SUV to rival the Tata Nexon and a C-segment SUV to take on the Hyundai Creta. In all likelihood, the 2023 WR-V could be the B2-segment SUV for our market, while serving as a worthy successor to the ageing WR-V. It will rival other B2-segment SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
