2023 BMW i5 Sedan, Estate, M Performance Models Confirmed

After launching the 5 Series LCI in 2020, BMW are all set to launch the 8th-gen 5 Series this year. Like its elder sibling — the 7 Series — the new 5 Series will have an all-electric counterpart. BMW have now teased the all-electric i5 ahead of its global debut.

Apart from the i5, BMW have also confirmed the  launch of an all-electric i5 estate, which will be the first all-electric estate in its segment. Furthermore, the new 5 Series will also include an all-electric performance model from BMW’s M division. Die-hard petrol need not worry though as the petrol-powered M5 will continue to remain on sale whereas the all-electric performance model will sit below the M5. As per the carmaker, the all-electric BMW i4 M50 was the best-selling M model in 2022.

BMW are yet to reveal the upcoming 5 Series’ powertrain details. However, the carmaker revealed that the new 5 Series will offer the latest BMW 8.5 operating system accompanied by a curved display. The curved display setup is already on offer in the 7 Series and 3 Series LCI.

We expect BMW to reveal the new 5 Series towards the end of 2023. The 5 Series Estate, on the other hand, will make its global debut in early 2024 in European markets. The new 5 Series will continue to rival other premium sedans like the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Volvo S90 and Jaguar XF.
