2022 Honda City e:HEV Hybrid Vs City Differences | V3Cars

Honda Cars India are gearing up to launch the 2022 City e:HEV hybrid sedan in May. Honda recently unveiled the India-spec City e:HEV hybrid and it’s different from the normal City sedan in many ways. We put the City e:HEV hybrid and the City sedan side by side to understand the differences between the two.

2022 Honda City e:HEV Hybrid Vs City Sedan – Design Differences

The 2022 City e:HEV hybrid boasts some design changes to have a clear differentiation with the regular sedan. Up front, we get a tweaked grille with a honeycomb mesh whereas the regular City does away with horizontal stats. The fog lamp housing in the City e:HEV get sporty inserts over the regular fog lamp housing in the regular City. In addition to that, both the Honda logos of the City e:HEV get a blue surround. At the rear, the City e:HEV gets a boot lip spoiler and e:HEV badge.

The biggest differences between the City e:HEV hybrid and City sedan are mechanical. As you may know by now, the City e:HEV gets a hybrid powertrain whereas the City sedan can either be had with a petrol or a diesel engine. The City e:HEV gets a 1.5L Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, mated with two electric motors and a Li-ion battery pack. The combined power output stands at 126PS whereas the torque stands at 253Nm between 0-3000rpm. On the other hand, the City petrol produces 121PS of power and 145Nm of torque.

The Honda City e:HEV doesn’t have a conventional transmission. In place of a transmission, Honda use an electric motor to channel power to the wheels and they like to call it an ‘e-CVT’. On the other hand, the City petrol sedan comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-step continuously variable transmission (CVT). The City e:HEV also gets regenerative braking levels whereas the City sedan does away with a conventional braking system.

Honda have also added some functional and safety features in the City e:HEV which are not present on the regular City sedan. To start with, the City e:HEV gets all-four disc brakes and an electric parking brake with an auto-hold function. In addition to that, the City e:HEV offers autonomous driving assistance systems (ADAS) which include lane-keeping assist, auto high beam, auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

As we stated earlier, Honda Cars India will launch the City e:HEV hybrid sedan in May 2022. Thanks to all the additional features and hybrid powertrain, we expect the City e:HEV to be priced substantially higher than the City sedan. The Honda City range currently retails from Rs. 11.29 lakh to Rs. 15.04 lakh ex-showroom.
