2021 Mahindra XUV500 Launch Confirmed For Mid-2021 | V3Cars
It is a known fact that Mahindra is working on launching the second-gen XUV500 soon and now we have an official confirmation. Talking to a publication, Veejay Nakra, CEO Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, Automotive Sector, said, “ The new XUV500 is scheduled to be launched between Q2 and Q3 of this calendar year (2021).”
Codenamed the W601, the second-gen SUV from Mahindra has been spotted testing on multiple occasions. In terms of design, it gets a huge front grille flanked by upswept LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs flowing into the bumper. The bumper is also new with a wide central air dam flanked by LED fog lamps. The side profile continues to get the steeped window line and a sloping roofline. It also gets flush door handles, new alloy wheels and rear disc brakes. Coming to the back, the second-gen XUV500 gets a flatter profile with a larger rear windshield and horizontally aligned tail lamps which might be connected by a trim element. It is expected to continue with the tailgate-mounted number plate housing as the current model.
From what we have seen in the spy shots, the interior of the second-gen XUV500 is ages ahead of its current model. It looks more sophisticated and premium as it gets a leather-wrapped dashboard. The centre of attraction is the Mercedes-like dual-screen setup for the infotainment and instrumentation. Other features that are expected to be on offer include a panoramic sunroof, wireless mobile charging, dual-zone AC, multiple airbags, font and rear parking sensors, air purifier, a 360-degree camera and connected car tech.
The second-gen XUV500 is expected to be the first SUV in its class to be equipped with Level-1 autonomous technology. As a result, it should be equipped with active safety features like autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, among others.
Under the hood, the new XUV500 will borrow its engines from the Thar. Like the Thar, it will get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine but in a higher state of tune producing around 190PS and 180PS, respectively. For reference, the Thar makes 150PS and 130PS with petrol and diesel engine, respectively. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Like the current model, the new XUV500 might also get an option of 4WD in the higher variants.
Mahindra is expected to price the next-gen XUV500 from Rs 14 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. It will take on likes of the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar.
