Maruti Suzuki Swift Pros & Cons

Check out pros and cons about the Maruti Suzuki Swift that are worth highlighting for a potential buyer. Here are some of the highlights of the benefits of buying the Maruti Suzuki Swift. We'll also list out the Swift drawbacks to help you make an informed buying decision.

Swift Advantanges
  • Class-Leading Dimensions

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the longest and widest hatchback in its segment. It is 40mm longer and 55mm wider over the Hyundai Grand-i10 Nios. Furthermore, the Swift also gets the segment-largest boot space of 268L, which is 8L more over the Nios’ 260L boot.

  • Best-In-Class Fuel Efficiency

The Swift offers class-leading fuel efficiency with all 3 of its powertrain options. The Swift manual, automatic and CNG offer a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.38kmpl, 22.56kmpl and 30.9kmpkg, respectively.

  • Class-Leading Power And Torque With CNG

The Swift CNG offers class-leading power and torque of 77PS @ 6000rpm and 98.5Nm at 4400rpm. Compared to the Tata Tiago CNG, the Swift CNG produces 4.5PS more power and 3.5Nm more torque.

  • Sporty Design With Low-Slung Stance

The Swift is one of the sportiest looking hatchback in the segment. It gets a flowing design with short overhangs and a low stance. Additionally, the placement of the door handles on the C-pillar make it seem like a 2-door hatchback from a distance. Its low roofline, wide body and low ground clearance make it look sportier than its rivals.

  • Long List Of Features

The Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with a long list of must-have and feel-good features. These include LED headlights, cruise control, LED DRLs, LED tail lights, machined alloy wheels, auto AC, steering-mounted controls and touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

  • Wide After-sales Support And Resale Value

After-sales service is the backbone of Maruti Suzuki in India. The Swift enjoys a reassuring after-sales network and its very easy to find a qualified technician for Maruti Suzuki cars even in remote locations. The Swift is one of the most popular models in the country and enjoys high resale value with minimal depreciation.

Swift Disadvantanges
  • Close To Baleno’s Territory

The Swift is priced very close to the Baleno, which is a premium hatchback. The Baleno is not only bigger than the Swift, but also offers a lot more features along with a more premium ownership experience. Shortly put, the Baleno carries nearly all the advantages of the Swift without compromising on anything at a minimal premium.

  • No CNG Option With ZXI Plus

While we appreciate Maruti Suzuki’s decision to not restrict the CNG models to the mid-level trims, the Swift CNG still doesn’t come with the ZXI variant. Maruti Suzuki offer the Swift CNG in VXI and ZXI variants only. The Tata Tiago, on the other hand, offers the CNG option with the well-loaded XZ Plus variant as well.

  • Missing Features

The Swift lacks a couple of features that we expect at this price point. These features include front and rear armrests, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear AC vents and wireless phone charger.

  • Poor Value With VXI Petrol Manual Variant

The VXI variant of the Swift offers poor value and lacks a coupe of must-have features. It carries a premium of around Rs. 90,000 and doesn’t justify the cost. It lacks features like a touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, rear defogger, auto AC, power-folding mirrors and split rear seatbacks.

  • Low Ground Clearance And Small Tyres

The Swift comes with a 163mm ground clearance, which is the lowest in its segment. Furthermore, the base and mid variants of the Swift come with 165 section 14-inch tyres whereas its Nexa sibling, the Ignis, comes with 175 section 15-inch tyres as standard.
