City Advantanges
ADAS Available In City V Variant With Petrol Manual, Automatic And Hybrid Options
Unlike the Hyundai Verna that only offers ADAS features in its top variant, the Honda City petrol and hybrid offer ADAS features right from the V variant, which sits just above the SV base variant. The Honda City petrol-manual, petrol-automatic, and hybrid’s V variant offers ADAS features such as auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, auto high beam.
Well Equipped V Variant Offers Phenomenal Value For Money
The V variant of the Honda City is available with all 3 powertrain options. The Honda City V petrol-manual commands a premium of Rs. 88,000 over the base SV variant. However, it offers significantly more features, including ADAS, fog lamps, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15-inch alloy wheels (petrol), 16-inch alloy wheels (hybrid), rear disc brakes (hybrid), paddle shifters with the CVT transmission, full-colour digital instrument cluster (hybrid), and walk away auto door locks.
Wide Range Of Engine Options
Honda offer the 5th-generation City sedan with 3 powertrain options — a petrol manual, a petrol automatic and a petrol hybrid automatic. All powertrain options of the new City offer impressive fuel efficiency figures. The 1.5L normal petrol engine of the new City produces its peak torque at a lower RPM and also offers slightly better fuel efficiency than the 4th-gen City. The strong hybrid powertrain offers 27.13kmpl, which makes it the most fuel efficient sedan in its segment.
Impressive List Of Standard Safety Features
The Honda City offers several safety features as standard across all variants. The list of standard safety features in the Honda City include electronic stability program (ESP), traction control (TC), hill-start assists (HSA), 4 airbags, projector headlamps, rear defogger, rear camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and 3-point seatbelts for all 5 passengers.
Highly Efficient Hybrid Powertrain
The Honda City hybrid’s variants offer a class-leading fuel efficiency or mileage of 27.13kmpl. It even offers class-leading torque output from near-zero RPMs thanks to its electric motor.
City Disadvantanges
Hybrid Variants Obscenely Expensive
While the Honda City’s hybrid powertrain does offer the best fuel efficiency figure in the segment, it does come at a hefty price. Priced between Rs. 18.90 lakh and Rs. 20.40 lakh (ex-showroom), the City hybrid is considerably more expensive than its petrol-automatic counterpart. You’d have to cover in excess of 2.20 lakh kilometres to recover the higher upfront cost you pay for the City hybrid.
Skinny 185-Section Tyres
The Honda City comes with skinny 185-section tyres, which are too narrow by segment standards. Some premium hatchbacks, like the Maruti Nexa Baleno, offer 195-section tyres. You can go one size wider and the City will still wear it as it came from the factory that way.
No Turbo Petrol Engine Option
The Honda City, along with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, are the only cars in the segment that do not offer a turbo petrol engine currently. Turbo petrol engines offer a good balance between displacement, power and torque output, fuel efficiency and emissions. However, it’s worth considering that most turbo petrol engines offer real-world fuel efficiency figures that are a lot lower than the manufacturer’s claimed figures as their performance is highly dependent on driving style, temperature and traffic conditions.
