Best EVs Under Rs. 10.0 Lakh

1. Tata Tiago EV

Launched towards the end of 2022, the Tata Tiago EV is offered with 2 powertrain options. The medium range option of the Tiago EV comes with a 19.2kWh battery pack while the long range option gets a 24kWh battery pack. The smaller 19.2kWh battery pack promises a range of 250km on a single charge whereas the 24kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of 315km as per the Modified Indian Test Cycle (MIDC). The medium range variants of the Tiago EV offer 61PS of power and 110Nm of torque while the long range variants offer 75PS of power and 114Nm of torque.

The Tiago EV’s prices start from Rs. 8.70 lakh for the medium range base variant to Rs. 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec long range variant coupled with a 7.2kW home charger.

2. MG Comet EV

The Comet EV from MG Motor comes with a 17.3kWh battery pack that powers a rear-mounted electric motor. The electric motor produces 42PS of power and 110Nm of torque. The Comet EV offers a claimed range of 230km on a single charge. In terms of charging, the Comet EV can juice up its batteries from 0-100% in 7 hours via a 3.3kW AC charger. However, the Comet EV does not support fast charging.

MG offer the Comet EV in 3 variants – Pace, Play and Plush. The prices start from Rs. 7.98 lakh and go up to Rs. 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It is worth mentioning that these are introductory prices for the first 5,000 customers. Bookings for the Comet EV commenced on May 15 and deliveries are currently underway in a phased manner.

3. Tata Tigor EV (Honourable Mention)

Tata released their second mass-market EV, the Tigor EV, in 2021. Although the Tigor EV costs above Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom), it is worth considering if you are considering a switch from fossil fuel-powered cars to an all-electric vehicle. When launched, the The Tigor EV was priced at Rs. 12 lakh. However, its prices have since increased to Rs. 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XE variant.

The Tigor EV is powered by a 26kWh battery pack. Its single engine, mounted on the front axle, generates 74.7PS of power and 170Nm of torque. It offers a claimed range of 315km. 

4. Citroen eC3 (Honourable Mention)

Like the Tigor EV above, the Citroen eC3 too costs above Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the Citroen eC3 is currently India’s most affordable all-electric hatchback with SUV styling. The eC3 is available in 2 variants costing Rs. 11.50 lakh and Rs. 12.43 lakh (ex-showroom). 

The Citroen eC3 comes with a 29.2kWh air-cooled battery pack and its front-mounted electric motor produces 57PS of power and 143Nm of torque. The charging times for the Citroen eC3 are 10.5 hours for a full charge using a 3.3kW AC home charger. A DC fast charger juices up the eC3’s battery from 10% to 80% in 57 minutes.
