Top 10 Electric Cars In India With A Range Of Over 250km

As the world embraces sustainable mobility, electric cars or EVs have gained significant popularity in India. With advancements in technology and government initiatives promoting green transportation, electric vehicles (EVs) have become a viable and eco-friendly choice for Indian car buyers. In this article, we present the top 10 electric cars that offer a range of 250km or more on a single charge and cost under Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). So, if you are considering going electric, keep reading to find the perfect EV to keep range anxiety issues out of your mind when driving!

Electric Cars In India With 250km Range

1. Tata Tiago EV

Launched towards the end of 2022, the Tata Tiago EV is available with 2 powertrain options. The medium range option of the Tiago EV comes with a 19.2kWh battery pack while the long range option gets a 24kWh battery pack. The smaller 19.2kWh battery pack promises a range of 250km on a single charge whereas the 24kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of 315km as per the Modified Indian Test Cycle (MIDC). The medium range variants of the Tiago EV offer 61PS of power and 110Nm of torque while the long range variants offer 75PS of power and 114Nm of torque.

The Tiago EV’s prices start from Rs. 8.70 lakh for the medium range base variant to Rs. 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec long range variant coupled with a 7.2kW home charger.

2. Tata Tigor EV

Tata released their second mass-market EV, the Tigor EV, in 2021. The Tigor EV gets a 26kWh battery pack. It has a single motor generating 74.7PS of power and 170Nm of torque. It has an official range of 315km. The Tigor EVs launch prices started at Rs. 12.0 lakh. However, its prices have increased to Rs. 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XE variant.

3. Citroen eC3

The Citroen eC3 is currently India’s most affordable all-electric hatchback with SUV styling. The eC3 is available in 2 variants with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 11.50 lakh and Rs. 12.13 lakh.

The Citroen eC3 gets a 29.2kWh air-cooled battery pack that sits under the floor of the car. The battery channels power to a front-mounted electric motor that produces 57PS of power and 143Nm of torque. As per Citroen, the eC3 can do 0-60kmph in 6.8 seconds with a limited top speed of 107kmph. The charging times for the Citroen eC3 are 10.5 hours for a full charge using a 3.3kW AC home charger. A DC fast charger juices up the eC3’s battery from 10% to 80% in 57 minutes.

4. Tata Nexon EV Prime And Nexon EV Max

The Nexon EV Prime, Tata's first passenger EV, is the fourth vehicle on the list. The Nexon EV Prime is currently India's best-selling EV and it offers a 30.2kWh battery and generates 129PS and 245Nm of torque. The Nexon EV Prime offers a claimed range of 312km per charge. The Nexon EV ranges in price from Rs. 14.50 lakh to Rs. 17.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tata Nexon EV Max is simply a long-range variant of the Nexon EV. It offers a 40.5kW battery pack and a range of 437 km, which is 125km longer than the Nexon EV Prime. The Nexon EV Max puts out 143PS of power and 250Nm of torque. The Nexon EV Max' prices range from Rs. 16.50 lakh to Rs. 19.54 lakh (ex-showroom).

5. Mahindra XUV400

Launched in January 2023, the Mahindra XUV400 is a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV Max. The starting price of the 2023 Mahindra XUV400 EV is Rs. 16.0 lakh. The most expensive variant of the XUV400 EV costs Rs. 19.0 lakh (ex-showroom). The C-segment electric SUV from Mahindra comes with a single electric motor, which offers a peak power of 150PS and a peak torque of 310Nm. 

XUV400 EV comes with 2 options for the battery pack — 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh. The 34.5kWh battery pack gives the XUV400 EV a range of 375km while the 39.4kWh battery pack promises a range of 456km.

6. MG ZS EV

In March 2022, MG introduced the ZS EV facelift. The ZS EV facelift packs a  50.3kWh battery and offers a claimed range of 461 kilometers per charge. During our tests, we discovered that the MG ZS EV offers a real-world range of 300km on a consistent basis. The electric motor in the ZS EV generates 176PS and 280Nm of torque. A DC fast charger can charge the ZS EV from 0 to 80% in 1 hour. The prices of the ZS EV ranges between Rs. 23.38 lakh and Rs. 27.40 lakh.

7. Hyundai Kona

The Hyundai Kona was India's first mass-market EV. The Kona offers a claimed range of 452km and is powered by a 39.2kWh battery. The electric motor in the Kona EV generates 136PS and 395Nm of torque. Using a 15A home charger, it can charge from 0% to 80% in roughly 6 hours. The pricing of the Kona EV ranges between Rs. 23.84 lakh and Rs. 24.03 lakh.

8. BYD E6

BYD, or Build Your Dreams, made their debut in India with the E6 MPV. The E6 is a 5-seater MPV that was initially only available to commercial buyers. However, the MPV is now available for private car buyers as well. The E6 uses a 71.1kWh battery. It produces 95PS of power and 180Nm of torque. BYD claim a city range of 520km with the E6. A DC fast charge can juice it from 30-80% in 35 minutes. The BYD E6 is priced at Rs. 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom).

9. BYD Atto 3

The Atto 3 electric SUV is BYD's second offering in the Indian market. The Atto 3 is powered by a 60.5kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 521km. The Atto 3 is powered by a single motor mounted on the front axle. It produces 204PS and 310Nm of torque. The BYD SUV takes roughly 10 hours to fully charge using a 7.4kW AC charger. The ex-showroom price of the Atto 3 is Rs. 34.0 lakh.

10. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai debuted the Ioniq 5 EV in India at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Ioniq 5’s 72.6kWh battery pack provides an ARAI-certified range of 631km on a single charge. The single motor configuration produces 217PS and 350Nm of torque and power. A 350kW DC charger takes roughly 18 minutes to charge the Ioniq 5 from 10% to 80%. The Ioniq 5 is priced at Rs. 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
