The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with 2 engine options – a 1.5L strong hybrid that offers a class-leading fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl and a 1.5L mild hybrid that is already on offer in several Maruti cars. Here’s Why You Should Buy The Grand Vitara Mild Hybrid Manual
Before moving further into the reasoning behind our recommendation, it is worth noting that the conclusion could change if you can extend your budget to the strong hybrid variants. The 1.5L normal petrol engine with the manual transmission is perfectly suited for in-city commutes. Thanks to its relatively shorter gearing, it feels peppy to drive in the city and you can also potter around town in a higher gear.

If you intend to go on long highway drives, the mild hybrid engine with the manual transmission offers ample performance. As it’s a 4-cylinder engine, it feels very refined for both city and highway commutes. However, if you commute over longer distances regularly, we recommend you pay the extra premium and get the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

As we stated earlier, the manual transmission of the Grand Vitara mild hybrid gets short gear ratios. Hence, at a speed of 100kmph, the engine sits just a shade below 3000rpm, which makes it feel strained. As the engine is rotating higher per minute, it also takes a toll on the real-world fuel efficiency. On the other hand, the 6-speed torque converter automatic lets the engine cruise effortlessly at around 2250rpm. Hence, the manual powertrain feels a lot more strained on the highways over the automatic transmission.

So, if you are considering the Grand Vitara SUV as your next car, we’d advise you to make a list of your priorities before heading to your closest Maruti Nexa showroom. If you value fuel efficiency over everything else but don’t want to exceed your budget for the strong hybrid powertrain, then the mild hybrid powertrain with the manual transmission makes a strong case for itself. However, if you plan to drive longer distances, we’d advise you to opt for the mild hybrid powertrain with the automatic transmission.
