Volvo XC40 Recharge Local Assembly Starts, Ahead Of July Launch

Volvo Start Local Assembly Of XC40 Recharge — Launch In July | V3Cars

Volvo Car India have announced that they will assemble the XC40 Recharge luxury electric SUV in India. The 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge will roll out of their manufacturing unit in Hosakote, Karnataka. Volvo Car India also revealed their plans to launch a new electric vehicle every year from 2022 onwards. They will launch the XC40 Recharge in July whereas the deliveries will begin in October onwards.

Volvo showcased their XC40 Recharge electric SUV in India back in 2021. Volvo delayed the launch of the XC40 Recharge amid the global semiconductor shortage. While the XC40 Recharge showcased back in 2021 was the pre-facelift, Volvo will offer the updated XC40 Recharge facelift in the Indian market. Volvo Car India are also the first carmaker to offer a made-in-India premium electric SUV.

Thanks to local assembly, the XC40 Recharge could carry a lower price tag than a full import. It will go up against the new Kia EV6 and upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5. It is worth noting that Hyundai India are also considering local assembly for the Ioniq 5 electric crossover. On the other hand, Kia India are selling the EV6 electric crossover via the CBU route. It garnered over 350+ bookings before the price announcement.

Volvo XC40 Recharge comes with a 78kWh battery pack with two electric motors. Both electric motors offer a power and torque output of 408PS and 660Nm. The XC40 Recharge comes with a range of 418km on a single charge and we expect its real-world range in the ballpark of 300km. It can also do 0-100kmph in 4.90 seconds.

Speaking on the announcement, Mr. Jyoti Malhotra, MD, Volvo Car India said, “We are committed to grow the Indian market and our plans to assemble our latest offering the XC40 Recharge at our plant in Bengaluru is a reflection of this resolve. The future of mobility is electric and as a company we have already stated that we will be an all-electric car company by 2030. Our focus on local assembly is a step in this direction. Our current range of internal combustion engine cars are already being rolled out from Hosakote plant to the exacting safety and quality global benchmarks that Volvo is known for.”
