Volkswagen Polo & Vento Production To End Soon | V3Cars

The Volkswagen Polo and Vento are the only models that continue to use the VW’s older PQ platform. The latest generation VW cars sold in international markets are based on the MQB platforms whereas VW’s India-specific models use a heavily localised version of the platform called MQB-A0-IN. The ageing platform and the lack of modern tech features have led to a dip in sales of the Polo and Vento. Hence, it no longer makes business sense to keep the models on sale.

The Vento will be replaced by the Virtus sedan. Volkswagen is set to reveal the India-spec sedan on March 8, followed by a launch in May. The sedan is tipped to be called Virtus and it will use the MQB-A0-IN platform which also underpins the VW Taigun, Skoda Slavia, and the Kushaq. Unfortunately, VW India do not have any plans to replace the Polo as yet. Meanwhile, VW has launched the 6th-gen Polo facelift in international markets. We are yet to receive this generation of VW’s premium hatchback. However, expect VW to launch a made-in-India Polo based on the MQB-A0-IN platform in the near future.

Both the Polo and Vento were popular among enthusiasts for their tough build quality, impressive interiors, good dynamics, and spritely engines. The Polo deserves a special mention as it was the first hatchback to get enthusiasts excited since the discontinuation of the Fiat Palio S10. Hence, one could say it paved the way for more sporty hatchbacks in the market, such as the Punto Abarth, Ford Figo S, and the latest Hyundai i20 N Line.
