Volkswagen Polo Production Zero — Vento Production Continues — For Now

Volkswagen Stop Polo Production — Vento Also Close End Of Production | V3Cars

The production of the Polo stands at zero units for the month of May 2022. However, its sedan incarnation — the Vento managed to score 4 units in May 2022. Volkswagen India announced the Polo Legend edition in April 2022 and it marked the end of the beloved hatchback in India.

While the new Volkswagen Virtus will replace the outgoing Vento, Volkswagen do not have any plans to bring the Polo replacement to the Indian market. Volkswagen offer the facelift of the 6th-generation Polo in the global markets whereas the India-spec Polo remained in the 5th-generation and served a stint of over 12 years.

The Polo GT legend also had the same 1.0L turbo petrol engine as the Ccomfortline and Highline variants. It made 110PS of power at 5000rpm and 175Nm of torque between 1750rpm and 4000rpm. The turbo petrol motor comes with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Giving you a short backstory of the Polo, VW India launched the Polo back in 2010 with 1.2L normal petrol and 1.2L turbo diesel engine options. Both had 3 cylinders. Over the course of 12 years, the Polo received 1.6L normal petrol, 1.6L turbo diesel, 1.5L turbo diesel, 1.2L turbo petrol, 1.0L normal petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. The Volkswagen Polo was also one of the most accessible hatchbacks with a dual-clutch transmission.

Volkswagen are now making use of their heavily-localised MQB-A0 IN platform for the Taigun and Virtus. The Skoda Kushaq and Slavia also use the same platform and this part sharing help them keep the production costs in check. The MQB-A0 IN is a modular platform and can accommodate multiple wheelbase sizes and body styles. While it’s nothing more than a daydream, we still have our fingers crossed to see the Polo hatchback launch in India again.
