Upcoming Mercedes-Benz Cars in 2022 | V3Cars
Mercedes-Benz India will launch 10 new cars in 2022. The German carmaker has confirmed the launch of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-AMG GTR Black Series and Mercedes-EQ EQS. The first launch of the year from Mercedes-Benz should be the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. It could be followed by the launch of the C-Class. Both the GTR Black Series and EQS could hit the shores by the end of 2022. Let’s talk in detail about the confirmed upcoming cars from Mercedes-Benz India.
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the most luxurious S-Class you can buy. Mercedes-Benz India will locally assemble the S580 whereas the S680 could go on sale as a CBU. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is 180mm longer and 7mm taller than the regular S-Class while having the same height. The wheelbase is also 80mm longer, hence offering more leg space for the rear passengers.
On the powertrain front, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class comes with two engine options - a 4.0L turbo petrol V8 with 503PS and 700Nm of torque and a 6.0L turbo petrol V12 with 612PS and 900Nm of torque. Both the S580 and S680 come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive as standard.
Mercedes-Benz will introduce the Maybach S-Class in March 2022. However, there is no confirmation on whether it would be the locally-assembled S580 or the CBU S680. Mercedes-Maybach will take on the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Mercedes-Benz will soon launch the new generation of the C-Class. The new W206 model went on sale globally last year. The new C-Class takes design inspiration from the bigger S-Class. It gets sleeker headlamps and tail lights, sharper body creases, and an updated interior layout. The new C-Class is 65mm longer, 10mm wider, and gets 25mm longer wheelbase than the current C-Class.
On the inside, there’s the 11.9-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment with in-built climate controls. Other key features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, twin-spoke steering wheel with capacitive controls, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and second-gen MBUX interface.
On the powertrain front, we expect Mercedes-Benz to offer the C-Class with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine and a 2.0L diesel engine. Both the engines should come with an integrated starter generator to offer power assist when needed and smooth auto-start/stop. Mercedes-Benz could launch the new C-Class by mid-2022 in the Indian market. It will take on the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Jaguar XE, Volvo S60, and Lexus ES300h.
Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series
Mercedes-AMG will launch the GT Black Series in the Indian market. The GT Black Series was the fastest car around the Nürburgring before Porsche snatched the title with the GT2 RS. It comes with a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that produces 730PS of power from 6700 - 6900rpm and 800Nm of torque from 2000 - 6000rpm.
The engine comes mated to a 7-speed DCT and powers the rear wheels only. The GT Black Series is the first AMG to adopt a flat-plane V8 with a unique firing order. With the performance in hand, it can achieve 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and 0-200km/h in 9 seconds with a top speed of 325km/h. The GT Black Series also gets some visual enhancements over the regular GT, like carbon fiber touches, rear spoiler, hood scoops, and larger front grille. Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series rivals the Ferrari F8 Tributo, Lamborghini Huracan Evo, and Porsche GT2 RS.
Mercedes-EQ EQS
Mercedes-EQ EQS is the flagship electric sedan from the German luxury marque. It can also be called the S-Class equivalent in the electric Mercedes-Benz range. But it’s new from the ground up and does not share anything with the regular S-Class. The EQS was unveiled last year and sits on an all-new dedicated EV architecture. The flagship electric sedan will be locally assembled in India at the carmaker’s Chakan plant.
Mercedes-Benz EQS comes in two options with different power outputs - 450+ and 580. Both the versions come with a 107.8kWh battery pack and offer a claimed range of up to 770 km. The EQS 450+ offers 333PS of power and 568Nm of torque. The EQS 580 offers 523PS of power and 855Nm of torque. Both the versions can be charged from 10% - 100% in around 5 hours via a 22kW AC charger. With a 200kW DC fast charger, the EQS can be charged from 10% - 80% in around 31 minutes. Mercedes-Benz India are yet to announce the variants of the EQS that will go on sale. We expect Mercedes-Benz to start the local assembly of the EQS in the last quarter of 2022.
Those were the confirmed launches from Mercedes-Benz India for the year 2022. The German carmaker is yet to reveal details about the remaining 6 cars which are also going to launch this year. We expect Mercedes-Benz India to also launch the GLB, EQA, and EQE in the Indian market. We will share the confirmed list of the remaining cars as soon as Mercedes-Benz India announce their plan.
