Upcoming EVs In 2024 - Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai And More | V3Cars

Let’s begin the list with cars that are likely to launch in early 2024.

1. Tata Punch EV

Set to debut in early 2024, the electric Tata Punch is among the most-anticipated EV launch of the new year. A recent media report claimed the Punch.ev will debut in late January 2024. Various spy shots of the Punch EV from the past year suggest it could feature a thoroughly revised front end, similar to the Nexon facelift. The Punch EV is likely to offer similar power and torque figures as the Tigor EV. So expect it to put out 75PS of power and 170Nm of torque and offer a driving range of 300 - 310km per charge.

The Punch EV is expected to rival the Citroen eC3, which is currently priced from Rs. 11.61 lakh (ex-showroom). The Punch EV is likely to cost more than the Citroen eC3 but offer a lot more features in return. Check out our expected price for the Tata Punch EV below.

2. Tata Curvv EV

Tata Motors are currently testing the Curvv EV ahead of its possible launch in March 2024. The carmaker showcased the Curvv concept SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo, and various spy shots over the past couple of months suggest it is close to hitting the production line. At the expo, Tata Motors confirmed that the Curvv would offer the option of both an electrified powertrain as well as internal combustion engine options. Reports suggest the production-spec Curvv SUV could be called the Frest or Azura. 

The Tata Curvv EV is expected to launch first as a rival to the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. It will also have to contend with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The production-spec Curvv EV will be based on a new platform but could feature the same electric powertrain as the Nexon EV long range and offer an ARAI-certified range of 465km per charge.

3. BYD Seal

The BYD Seal electric sedan is likely to launch in India in April 2024. The electric sedan was first showcased to the public at the 2023 Auto Expo. In global markets, the BYD Seal comes with 2 battery pack options – 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh. The 61.4kWh battery pack supports 110kW fast chargers and offers a range of 550km while the bigger 82.5kWh battery offers a range of up to 700km and supports fast chargers with speeds up to 150kW. 

BYD are likely to offer the Seal with 2 electric motor options – single and dual motor. The BYD Seal with the single motor option puts out 207PS of power with the smaller battery and 316PS of power with the bigger battery. In the dual motor version, the front motor produces 221PS of power and the rear motor produces 316PS. The combined output is capped at 537PS. The all-wheel drive, dual motor version of the Seal does 0-100kmph in 3.8 seconds.

When launched, the BYD Seal will rival the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Mercedes-Benz EQB and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. However, its prime rival will be the BMW i4, which is the only other electric sedan in this price range.

4. Hyundai Ioniq 6

After a resounding response for the Ioniq 5, Hyundai could introduce the Ioniq 6 in India in April 2024. Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 is likely to be locally assembled in India and get a starting price tag of under Rs. 50 lakh. In global markets, the Ioniq 6 comes with a 77.4kWh battery pack connected to a single electric motor that produces 228PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The Ioniq 6 is expected to offer a claimed range of over 600km on a single charge.

5. New Hyundai Kona Electric

The current Kona Electric on sale in India was launched in 2019 and hasn’t received any major updates since its market introduction. Meanwhile, Hyundai launched the new-generation Kona Electric in global markets in December 2022 and we could finally receive the latest version of the electric SUV in May 2024. The new Kona EV gets 2 battery pack options – 48.4kWh and 65.4kWh – and produces 155PS and 218PS of power, respectively. Hyundai claims a range of 490km on a full charge. Features include twin 12.3-inch displays for the driver and infotainment duties, a 12-inch head-up display, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, 360-degree cameras, ADAS and vehicle-2-load (V2L) compatibility.

6. Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition

In July 2023, Fisker confirmed their plans to enter the Indian EV market with a limited edition of the Ocean Extreme electric SUV. The India-exclusive Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan edition is likely to launch in April 2024 and will be limited to just 100 units.

The Fisker Ocean Extreme comes with a 118kWh battery pack and 2 electric motors. The Ocean Extreme electric SUV offers a combined power output of 550PS, which enables it to do the 0-100kmph sprint in 3.9 seconds. The Ocean Extreme from Fisker offers a WLTP-certified range of 707km on a single charge. When launched, the Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition is likely to cost between Rs. 70.0 lakh - Rs. 75.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

7. Citroen eC3 Aircross

Citroen India are likely to launch the electrified version of the C3 Aircross in the first half of 2024. The C1-segment SUV is likely to feature a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor than the eC3 SUV. For reference, the eC3 is powered by a 29.2kWh battery pack and a single electric motor at the front axle that puts out 57PS of power and 143Nm of torque. While the ec3 offers a claimed range of 320km, expect the ec3 Aircross to offer close to 400km per charge. When launched, the C3 Aircross EV will compete with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, albeit with a lower price tag.

8. Tata Harrier EV

We expect Tata Motors to showcase the production-spec Harrier EV in late 2024 and launch their flagship electric SUV in early 2025. Tata’s flagship electric SUV is likely to retain the design and features of the recently launched Harrier facelift, albeit with EV-specific design and cabin tweaks. Unlike the Harrier ICE, it could offer the option of an all-wheel-drive powertrain with a dual-motor setup. When launched, the Harrier EV could compete with the Hyundai Creta EV in terms of price and specifications.

9. Mahindra XUV e8

Like Tata and the Harrier EV, we expect Mahindra to showcase the XUV e8 in late 2024 and launch the eSUV in early 2025. Various spy shots of the XUV e8 over the past year have revealed its design details such as the full-width LED DRL with horizontal elements at the corners of the front bumper, vertically stacked LED projector headlamps with ice cube shaped LED fog lamps, and an enclosed front grille. The side profile and the rear are likely to be similar to the XUV700 as the test mule features the same silhouette and LED tail lamps as the ICE-powered SUV. The production-spec XUV.e8 is expected to offer aero wheels and bronze accents all around.

The XUV.e8 or XUV700 electric is expected to be based on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform. It is likely to be powered by BYD’s prismatic blade cell batteries, with capacities ranging from 60kWh to 80kWh depending on the variant. Reports suggest the XUV.e8 could be offered with the option of a single electric motor at the rear axle and dual electric motors at either axle for all-wheel drive capabilities. The XUV.e8 is likely to offer a power output ranging between 227PS to 345PS, a real-world range of over 400km on a single charge, and should be capable of hitting a top speed of 200kmph. 10. Hyundai Creta EV

Last but not least, Hyundai could tease the Creta EV towards the end of 2024, ahead of an early 2025 launch. While details of the Creta EV are scarce at the moment, test mules of the current Creta SUV equipped with an electric powertrain were spied all throughout 2023. The spy shots suggest Hyundai could either be considering the possibility of launching an electrified Creta or conducting tests for an all-new, all-electric C-SUV. 

Hyundai’s sister company, Kia, have revealed the EV3, which shares virtually no resemblance with the similarly sized Seltos. The Kia EV3 is expected to launch in India alongside the popular Seltos eventually. Similarly, Hyundai could launch an all-new compact electric SUV and offer it alongside the Creta ICE. The upcoming Hyundai electric SUV could offer a range of around 400km per charge and go up against the upcoming Tata Curvv EV and the Kia EV3.
