Toyota Urban Cruiser Launched In South Africa

The Toyota Urban Cruiser, which was based on the now-discontinued Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, was the best-selling crossover in South Africa in 2022. The new Urban Cruiser, which is called the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in India, replaces the old Urban Cruiser in South Africa and offers bigger dimensions and more features than before. In terms of design, there are hardly any perceptible differences between the India-spec and Africa-spec models.

Why No Hyryder Suffix For Africa-Spec Urban Cruiser?

Well, the answer to that lies under the bonnet. While the India-spec Urban Cruiser Hyryder offers both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain options, the African-spec model only offers the 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol engine. For the uninitiated, ‘Hy’ in the name Hyryder refers to hybrid, which is not present in the African-spec model. It still rides high though, thanks to a ground clearance of 210mm, which is surprisingly 2mm more than the India-spec Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Features

The new African-spec Urban Cruiser offers a lot less features when compared to the India-spec model. For an easier understanding, Toyota don’t offer any variant equivalent to the Hyryder V variant in South Africa. Speaking of variants, the Urban Cruiser comes in 2 variants — XS, XR and XR AT. In terms of features, it offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, auto AC, LED headlights and tail lights, cruise control, 6 airbags and 17-inch alloy wheels.
