Toyota RAV4 SUV Spied In India; Expected To Launch Soon | V3Cars

Since last year, there have been various speculations suggesting Toyota will launch the RAV4 SUV in India and now the SUV has been spied testing in the country. The SUV was spotted without any camouflage and is the same model which is on sale globally. Toyota could have imported the SUV under the new rule which allows carmakers to import up to 2500 units of a particular model in a year without homologation.

Toyota RAV4

The RAV4 is Toyota’s one of the most popular SUVs globally and now the carmaker might be planning to launch the SUV in India. Globally, the RAV4 is offered with three types of powertrain options: petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. However, in India, it is expected to be offered with a hybrid powertrain only as the model spotted here had a ‘Hybrid’ badge on the front fender.

The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a combination of a 2.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor with a combined power output of 219PS. Power is sent to wheels via an e-CVT gearbox. A similar set up is seen on the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Velfire MPV.

Based on the TNGA platform, the RAV4 is 4594mm long, 1854mm wide and 1701mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2689mm. Size-wise, the RAV4 rivals the Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass but since it will be imported in India as a CBU, it is expected to be priced much higher than the above-mentioned SUVs.

In the USA, prices of the RAV4 Hybrid start from $28,650 (Rs 20.72 lakh approx.). However, in India, it is expected to be priced at around Rs 60 lakh. It won’t have any direct rivals in India but price-wise it can compete with its more premium sibling the Lexus NX 300h.
