Toyota Halts Deliveries Of Innova Crysta, Fortuner And Hilux Due To “Irregularities” In Diesel Engine | V3Cars
Toyota Kirloskar Motor are temporarily suspending dispatches and deliveries of the Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux due to “irregularities” found in the certification tests for their diesel engines.
“Irregularities” Found In Toyota’s 2.4L And 2.8L Diesel Engines
Toyota Industries Corporation, the company tasked with developing the 2.4L and 2.8L diesel engines that power the Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux, reported to Toyota Motor Corporation that it received a report from the special investigation committee that was commissioned to investigate potential irregularities of certification regulations related to inappropriate emissions certification of engines for forklifts and construction machinery.
The committee found irregularities occurred during the horsepower output testing for the certification of 3 diesel engine models, 2 of which (2.4L and 2.8L) are offered in India. During certification tests, some engines were tested with different software than used in production, resulting in smoother, less variable horsepower readings. 3 models in India – Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux) and others globally are affected by the issue.
However, Toyota have issued a statement saying, “We have re-verified the mass-produced products manufactured at the plant and confirmed that the affected engines and vehicles meet engine performance output standards. Therefore, there is no need to stop using the affected engines or vehicles. However, we deeply apologize to our customers who have been supporting affected vehicles and waiting for a long time, and also to all other stakeholders for the significant inconvenience and concern that this has caused.”

A Toyota Kirloskar Motor spokesperson reportedly said the company will carefully explain the condition to customers who have already taken delivery of the affected cars.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor have also reiterated that the issue does not have any impact on the emissions or safety of the affected vehicles. Meanwhile, the brand is working with relevant authorities to re-confirm the data used for the certification of the affected vehicles.
