Toyota Belta To Replace Toyota Yaris In August This Year

Toyota Belta To Replace Toyota Yaris In August This Year | V3Cars

Sources have confirmed that the Toyota Belta sedan will go on sale in India in August 2021. For the uninitiated, the Belta is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift which has been on sale in the country since 2018. The Belta will be the third product to come out of the Toyota-Suzuki partnership after the Toyota Glanza (Maruti Baleno) and the Toyota Urban Cruiser (Maruti Vitara Brezza).

While the other rebadged Toyota cars have received a minor cosmetic compared to their Maruti counterparts, the Belta is expected to look identical to the Ciaz. A production-spec version of the Belta’s front grille was spied which looked identical to that of the Ciaz save for the Toyota logo replacing the Suzuki badge.

The Belta will replicate the Ciaz on the inside as well. However, expect it to get a different colour upholstery replacing the dual-tone Beige-Black combination seen on the Ciaz.

Its feature list will also be identical to the Ciaz. It will be equipped with auto LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto AC with rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, cruise control, push-button start, tilt-adjustable steering and height-adjustable driver’s seat.

Safety features on offer include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors and a parking camera. The Ciaz also comes with electronic stability control and hill launch assist but these features are limited to the automatic transmission variants only.

Under the hood, the Belta will be powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Ciaz. It makes 105PS and 138Nm paired to a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT. The Ciaz has a claimed fuel economy of 20.65 kmpl (MT)  and 20.04 kmpl (AT). So, the Belta should have an identical fuel economy as well. On the other hand, the Yaris is also offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine making 107PS/140Nm mated to a 6-speed MT and a CVT.

While the prices of the Yaris range from Rs 9.16 lakh to Rs 14.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Belta will be priced similar to the Ciaz which retails from Rs 8.52 lakh to Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). To make the Belta a more attractive offering than Ciaz, Toyota might offer a 3 year/1 lakh kms standard warranty on the sedan, which is better than Ciaz’ standard warranty of 2 years/40000 km. That said, Maruti offers an extended warranty of up to 5 years/1 lakh kms at an additional cost while Toyota offers an extended warranty of up to 5 years/2.2 lakh kms.

The Belta will take on the likes of the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City (4th and 5th generations), Hyundai Verna and upcoming sedans from Volkswagen and Skoda.
