Rumour - Suzuki Working On Swift-Based Mini SUV

Rumour - Suzuki Working On Swift-Based Mini SUV | V3Cars

According to a report, Suzuki is working on a mini SUV based on the next-generation Swift. Rumours suggest that the crossover might use the Swift Sport’s frame, engine and transmission.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

The next generation of Swift might launch in 2022 globally. However, the India-spec Swift got a facelift earlier this year, so we might get the next-gen Swift on Indian showroom floors sometime late in 2023 or early in 2024. The new generation Swift Sport variant could launch in 2023 globally featuring the same 1.4L mild-hybrid turbo petrol engine as the current Sport model.

The other changes could include higher ground clearance and body cladding. To keep the manufacturing costs in check and prices competitive, Maruti Suzuki may use 1.2L mild-hybrid petrol engine. The suspension of this crossover might be softer than the Swift Sport to provide a comfortable ride. The current-gen Swift has a set of slightly stiffer suspensions to go with its sporty image.

This SUV will fill the gap between Ignis and Brezza SUV in the global market. If it launches in India, then it could compete directly with the Tata Punch and other sum-4m SUVs with a 1.0L normal petrol engine.

The Tata Punch is already in the top 10 selling cars within the first month of its launch. The success of the Punch is encouraging Maruti Suzuki to add a new, small crossover to the lineup.
