Suzuki Fronx Gets 1.5L Petrol Engine In South Africa
Before the India launch of the Fronx, we revealed that the small crossover will also get the 1.5L normal petrol engine option for global markets. Suzuki have now launched the Fronx in South Africa and it comes equipped with Maruti Suzuki’s K15 1.5-litre normal petrol engine.

Like in other Suzuki models that uses this engine, this South Africa-spec Fronx produces 105PS of power at 6000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4400rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and also offers the option of a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It is worth mentioning that most Maruti Suzuki cars powered by this engine in India now offer the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Only the Jimmy and Coaz continue to use the older 4-speed automatic.
Apart from the difference in powertrain, the Fronx sold in South Africa looks the same as the India-spec model. However, it doesn’t carry a ‘SmartHybrid’ badging on its tailgate like the India-spec Fronx. It continues to offer connected LED tail lights and a tapering roof line, giving it a coupe-esque look. Furthermore, Suzuki also offer the Fronx in South Africa with an exclusive orange exterior colour, which is not available in the Indian market.
