Renault Kwid - Only 59 Units Dispatched In Jan 2023 - Is It On Its Way Out? | V3Cars
Renault witnessed a drop in production in January 2023. The production of all 3 of their cars dropped. The Triber suffered the least loss of 34% YoY and 18.5% MoM. The Kiger’s performance was considerably worse, recording 62% drop in YoY figures and 45% MoM drop. But the Kwid is the one that surprised us the most. Its MoM and YoY production dropped by about 97%.
Following is a table of Renault’s car sales in January 2023 and YoY change:

Normally, we see this pattern in one of two conditions:
- The car is getting a facelift or generation update. So, the retooling of the manufacturing facility results in a pause in production. It picks up pace once the new model goes on sale.
- The car is nearing its end of life and there’s no replacement in sight.
If you look at the last 6-month trend, then you’ll notice that Renault routinely move around 1500 - 2000 units of the Kwid every month. Because of the poor performance in January 2023, the Kwid’s 6-month average production comes to around 1500.

At the moment, it’s unclear if the Kwid is on its way out or it’s waiting for an imminent refresh. Renault dealers are accepting bookings like it’s business as usual. Moreover, we haven’t seen a camouflaged Kwid testing on public roads in recent months. We spotted a Kwid on test without camouflage in January 2023, but it’s unclear if it was just a BS6 phase-2 test car or one with a CNG kit.

2023 Renault Kwid Launched With New Safety Features
Renault recently discontinued the 0.8L engine of the Kwid and updated the 1.0L engine with the BS6 phase-2 emission norms. Along with the engine update, Renault also added several safety features to the Kwid. So, neither of the 2 usual reasons apply in this case. For now, we can only wait and watch to see the story unfolds in the coming months.
