Renault Kwid Electric Under Consideration For India | V3Cars
In a recent press conference, Renault revealed that they are considering an A-segment electric hatchback for India. The small hatchback underpinned by the CMFA-EV platform will go on sale in the Latin America market soon.
Renault City K-ZE (Kwid Electric) Under Consideration For India
Renault are currently studying the feasibility of a small A-segment electric hatchback for India. The electric hatchback is likely to be based on the Kwid, which is underpinned by the CMF-A platform. The City K-ZE, which is on sale in multiple global markets, sits on the CMFA-EV platform. The said platform is a modified version of the Kwid’s CMF-A modular platform.

The City K-ZE is also known as the Dacia Spring in European markets. It comes with a 26.8kWh battery pack, which is good for a WLTP-certified driving range of 225km on a single charge. Its front-mounted electric motor produces 44PS of power and 125Nm of torque.
In terms of charging, the Dacia Spring can juice up its battery to 80% in under an hour via a 30kW DC fast charger. A 7.4kW AC wallbox charger, on the other hand, takes 5 hours to charge the battery to 100%.

Renault are yet to confirm their plans to bring the electric hatchback to the market. We saw the first glimpse of the City K-ZE at the 2020 Auto Expo alongside its elder sibling — the Zoe electric hatchback. However, none of the electric vehicles were spotted on test on our roads.
Since both Renault and Nissan have announced officially that they are considering a small electric hatchback for India, we expect to soon spot the Kwid electric undergoing tests on our roads. Furthermore, Nissan may also consider a small electric hatchback built on the same CMFA-EV platform, albeit with different exterior design. Apart from the small electric hatchback, Renault and Nissan have confirmed a range of SUVs and other vehicles, including a Triber-based Nissan MPV.
