Renault To Launch An EV In 2025

Renault India recently revealed their plans to launch multiple models in the coming years. The highlight of Renau;t’s latest product strategy was the announcement of an A-segment electric vehicle and the brand’s CEO has now officially committed 2025 as the launch year for what could possibly be Renault’s first EV for the Indian market. Since it will be an A-segment EV, it is likely to share its underpinnings with the Dacia Spring and Renault City K-ZE, both of which are essentially the electric counterpart of the Kwid hatchback.

Renault showcased the City K-ZE at the 2020 Auto Expo alongside the Zoe EV. Since Renault have a good 2 year timeframe to develop the new EV, we expect it to boast heavy localisation to keep costs in check. Given its small size, it could be one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the country, undercutting the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.

While Renault haven’t mentioned any technical details of the upcoming EV, we could expect it to be similar to the Dacia Spring. The Dacia Spring, which is already on sale in multiple European markets, offers a 26.8kWh battery pack and a claimed range of 225km on single charge.

Renault India Future Launch Plans

Apart from the A-segment electric vehicle, Renault India have also revealed their plans to launch 2 C-segment SUVs from 2025 onwards. To offer a competitive package, Renault will heavily localise their CMF-B platform and the same platform will also underpin 2 Nissan SUVs. While the platform, engines and transmission are likely to be shared between both brands, the SUVs from either carmaker will feature unique designs to differentiate themselves from each other. A prime example of uniquely designed SUVs that share a common platform are the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. The upcoming SUVs from Renault and Nissan will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, among others.
