Maruti Suzuki Holding New CNG Car Launches — Huge Order Backlog To Blame | V3Cars
Maruti Suzuki sell the most CNG vehicles in the country and are facing issues with the supply. They have a booking backlog of over 1.25 lakh CNG vehicles. Maruti Suzuki recently discontinued the CNG variants in the S-Presso lineup. They’re not likely to launch any new CNG cars before they substantially wrap up the open backlog of orders.
Maruti Suzuki have a couple of new models in the pipeline, which are likely to get a CNG option. At the launch of the Baleno, an official brochure confirmed the arrival of the Baleno CNG. Besides the Baleno and S-Presso CNG, we’re also expecting Maruti Suzuki to bring Brezza CNG, Swift CNG and Ignis CNG to the market.

We believe the huge backlog for CNG vehicles is because of a few reasons including the following:
- a strong rebound in the economy after the pandemic
- steep rise in international petrol and diesel fuel prices
- supply chain constraints
- semiconductor shortage

Tata Motors also re-entered the CNG segment, with the launch of the Tiago and Tigor CNG. They’re also most likely working on future CNG models like the Punch CNG, Nexon CNG and the Altroz CNG.

The most recent CNG launch from Maruti Suzuki was the Ertiga CNG. The new Ertiga CNG uses the 1.5L normal petrol engine, producing 88PS of power at 5500rpm and 122Nm of torque at 4200rpm. It doesn’t get the mild-hybrid system and the automatic transmission. The regular Ertiga on the other hand, retains its mild-hybrid tech and replaces the 4-speed torque converter automatic with a 6-speed unit.
