Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Spotted Testing In Desert | V3Cars
The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio has been spotted testing on multiple occasions. But for the first time, the SUV has been spotted in an off-road habitat further affirming that it will be offered with an optional 4WD system. The current-gen Scorpio was earlier offered with a 4WD system but it was discontinued when the BS6 update was introduced in 2020.
The new Mahindra Scorpio is expected to borrow its engines from the Thar but in a higher state of tune. On the Thar, while the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine makes 150PS/320Nm, the 2.2-litre diesel engine is good for 130PS and 300Nm. Like the Thar, the Scorpio is also expected to be offered with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options with both petrol and diesel engines. However, the optional 4WD system is likely to be limited to the diesel engine only.
As always, the test mule spied in the desert was also heavily camouflaged revealing nothing new about the SUV’s design. From what we can see, while the new Scorpio carries forward its boxy silhouette, it looks bigger and more premium than its predecessor as far as dimensions are concerned. On the inside, spy shots have revealed that the new Scorpio will get features like an electric sunroof, a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a flat-bottom steering.
Other features that are expected to make way to the new Scorpio include auto LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, auto AC with rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM, connected car tech, upto 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill launch assist and electronic stability control.
Mahindra will debut the new Scorpio only after the Mahindra XUV700 which will go on sale by the end of this year. So, expect the new Scorpio to be unveiled in early 2022 followed by its launch soon after. Prices of the new Scorpio are expected to start at a premium over the current model which retails from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). Since the Scorpio is based on a ladder-frame chassis, it has no direct rivals. Pricewise, it competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, MG Hector and upcoming SUVs like the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
