Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Spied In Near-Production Form

Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Spied In Near-Production Form | V3Cars

Mahindra has been working on the next-gen Scorpio for a while and the SUV has been spied testing several times. However, this time the new Scorpio is spied in a closer-to-production form.

Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio

The new Scorpio is expected to be bigger than the current model in every possible dimension and carry an all-new design. Upfront, it gets Mahindra’s signature grille with vertical slats. It is flanked by dual-barrel headlamps. The bumper features C-shaped LED DRLs around the large two-piece central air dam.

At the side, the new Scorpio continues forward with the boxy silhouette of its predecessor. However, it looks more muscular courtesy the flared wheel arches. At the back, it gets an upright profile, and it appears that it will continue to get a side-way opening tailgate as before.

Expect it to get features like multiple airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto AC and LED headlamps.

Under the hood, the new Scorpio is expected to share its engines with the new Thar, which gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Where the petrol engine makes 150PS and 300Nm (320Nm with automatic), the diesel engine is good for 130PS and 300Nm. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed MT as well as a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Mahindra might as well offer the option of a 4WD system on the Scorpio this time around.

Mahindra is expected to launch the next-gen Scorpio by mid 2021. It may be priced at a premium over the current model, which retails from Rs 12.42 lakh to Rs 16.27 lakh (ex-showroom). If rumours are to be believed, Mahindra might sell the new Scorpio alongside the current model, similar to what Honda is doing with the City. The Scorpio will continue to take on likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks.
