Mercedes Benz Unveils EQA Electric SUV | V3Cars

Mercedes Benz has unveiled its second all-electric SUV, the EQA. It is the brand’s entry-level EV and is one of the six EQ models the carmaker plans to launch globally by 2022.

Based on the second-gen GLA, the EQA replicates its donner car in terms of dimensions and basic design elements but gets various EV specific elements to set itself apart. Upfront, it gets a black panel EQ radiator grille instead of a conventional grille while the headlamps are also updated and look similar to the units seen on the bigger EQC. At the back, it looks a lot similar to the second-gen GLA but gets sleeker tail lamps connected by lighting strip.

On the inside, the EQA looks similar to the GLA SUV. It gets the Mercedes’ signature dual-screen setup with one 10.25-inch display for infotainment and other for the digital instrumentation. Other features on offer include Active Distance Assist, Active Steer Assist, Evasive Steering Assist and Active Blindspot Monitoring.

Mercedes is offering the EQA in the 250 trim only. It is powered by a front axle-mounted electric motor generating 190PS and 375Nm. Mercedes claims that the EQA can go from 0-100kmph in 8.9 seconds and has a claimed range of 426km WLTP cycle (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test).

For charging the battery, the EQA is equipped with a CCS (Combined Charging System) connector as standard. It can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes using a 100kW DC fast charger. However, it takes up to 6 hours to go from 10 to 100 per cent, if charged using Mercedes wall box or regular charging stations.

Mercedes Benz has launched the EQA in the German market at a price tag of €47,540 (Rs 42.24 lakh). It rivals likes of the Tesla Model Y and the Volvo SC40 Recharge. Mercedes is expected to launch the EQA in India by 2022.
