BYD To Supply Blade Batteries For Maruti And Toyota Electric SUVs | V3Cars

Build Your Dreams (BYD) is one of the largest electric car maker in the world. BYD also have orders for blade batteries from Tesla. According to our sources, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have decided to source blade batteries for their upcoming electric SUVs from BYD. The 2 companies are also likely to share the platform and powertrain for their respective electric vehicles.

Maruti And Toyota Electric SUVs To Use BYD Batteries

Mahindra also hinted that they will use blade batteries for their upcoming electric SUVs. Currently, BYD are the only carmaker making blade-type batteries. With Mahindra, Maruti and Toyota already in line, we expect BYD to set up a manufacturing plant for their battery production in India. This would help them cut costs drastically with lower taxes helping improve EV adoption.

Maruti and Toyota are likely to position their upcoming electric SUVs in the C-segment. These SUVs could measure a little longer than the Hyundai Creta and offer a claimed range of over 500km. After the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Grand Vitara, the 2 carmakers will jointly develop their respective electric vehicles.

The upcoming electric SUVs will sit on a new skateboard electric platform with an expected wheelbase of 2700mm. These SUVs may also offer a 4WD option with dual-motor configuration.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are likely to bring these new electric SUVs to the Indian market in 2025. The upcoming SUVs will go up against electric SUVs like the Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Kona Electric. Furthermore, by the year 2025, we will have a host of electric SUVs like Tata Curvv, Mahindra born electric SUV range and electric SUVs and RVs from Hyundai and Kia in the pipeline.
