As the 2022 Brezza will drop the ‘Vitara’ prefix from its name, we expect the new SUV from Maruti to be named Vitara. Meanwhile, Toyota recently registered the name Hyryder for the upcoming SUV. We expect the production version of Toyota’s SUV to be called the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Both of them are likely to carry distinctive front fascia, alloy wheel design, etc. Interestingly, the new SUVs will be the only cars in the segment to get a 4-wheel drive system.

Shedding some light on the powertrain options of the new SUV, the carmakers announced that the new SUV will get the option of 2 hybrid engines. As we stated earlier, the new SUVs will get the mild-hybrid setup from other Maruti cars, such as the Nexa Ciaz and Nexa XL6. The new SUVs will also get the option of a strong hybrid setup developed by Toyota. We expect these hybrid setups to come mated to the 1.5L dual-jet normal petrol engine from Maruti’s stable.
