Maruti Nexa Fronx CNG Spotted Testing - Launch Around Mid-2023

Maruti Nexa Fronx CNG Spotted Testing - Likely To Launch By Mid-2023 | V3Cars

Images of a camouflaged Fronx with some emission-testing equipment hanging from the back recently surfaced online. Currently, Maruti Suzuki are only accepting bookings for the manual and automatic transmission combinations with the 1.2L normal petrol and 1.0L mild-hybrid turbo petrol engines. However, the Baleno, Swift and Dzire, which also get the same 1.2L normal petrol engine as the Nexa Fronx, have the option of CNG bi-fuel in India.

According to the reports, the car was running on Pune roads and wearing a red, MH-12 number plate. Maruti Suzuki have majority of their production and operations in Haryana. So, we usually see their test cars with a HR-26 number plate. But in this case, it seems that the car is going through testing with the Automotive Research Authority of India. ARAI have their offices and test sites in Pune, Maharashtra and they test the fuel efficiency and emissions as part of the homologation process.

V3Cars Insights

The Fronx competes with Tata’s Punch, which is the segment leader in the affordable SUV/crossover segment. The Punch will also soon get a CNG kit, which won’t even compromise significantly on the boot space. So, we are expecting Maruti Suzuki to stay on course and offer CNG with their affordable small SUV - Fronx.

It’s worth noting that Maruti Suzuki recently revised the prices of their cars. With the update, the price gap between the CNG and petrol variants of Maruti Suzuki’s hatchbacks narrowed down to Rs. 90,000 from Rs. 95,000.
