Maruti Suzuki Adds Acoustic Vehicle Alert System To Grand Vitara Hybrid | V3Cars
Maruti Suzuki have updated the Grand Vitara hybrid with a new safety feature. Called the Acousitve Vehicle Alert System (AVAS), this new safety feature emits an audible warning to alert pedestrians of vehicle approaching from behind. Read on to know more about the AVAS system in the Grand Vitara hybrid.
What Is an AVAS System?
AVAS stands for acoustic vehicle alert system and it’s used in electric vehicles to alert pedestrians. Since electric vehicles do not emit any sound like a combustion engined car, the acoustic vehicle alert system emits a low-level sound, which can be heard for up to a distance of five feet from the car. This low-level sound alerts pedestrians about the vehicle's presence and minimises chances of an accidental impact.

Why Does The Grand Vitara Need This System?
Maruti Suzuki offer the AVAS system only in the hybrid variants of the Grand Vitara. Since the Grand Vitara uses a strong hybrid powertrain, it is capable of driving for a few kilometres on sole electric power. Furthermore, the Grand Vitara hybrid always sets off the line in EV mode, emitting no engine sound whatsoever. Hence, it becomes crucial for such vehicles to emit some level of sound to alert pedestrians around.
Has AVAS Increased Grand Vitara Hybrid Prices?
No, the inclusion of AVAS has not increased the prices of the Grand Vitara hybrid. The Grand Vitara Hybrid continues to come in 2 variants — Zeta Plus and Alpha Plus. Check out the prices of the Grand Vitara Hybrid below:

The engine is mated to an e-CVT transmission that transmits power to the front wheels. The non-hybrid variants of the Grand Vitara also offer the option of CNG and petrol manual four-wheel-drive.
