Maruti Suzuki Fronx — Here’s What The Name Means | V3Cars
At the 2023 Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki unveiled its latest crossover SUV, the Fronx, based on the premium Baleno hatchback. The name Fronx, a B2-segment SUV, has split opinions ever since its debut. However, we got the inside scoop on what the name ‘Fronx’ means and you can read all about it here.
What Does The Fronx Name Mean?
The literal breakdown of the name Fronx is ‘Frontier Next’. As per Maruti, the name Fronx denotes their entry into a new segment. Even though Maruti Suzuki already offer the Brezza in the B2-segment SUV space, the Fronx rivals more affordable offerings like the Tata Punch and Citroen C3. It is also the only B2-segment crossover from Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa range of cars as it slots between the Baleno and Grand Vitara.

The Fronx also marks Maruti Suzuki’s re-entry into the ever-burgeoning turbo petrol engine market. The Fronx marks the return of Maruti’s 1.0L turbo petrol engine that made its debut in the short-lived Baleno RS. The turbo petrol engine of the Fronx offers 100PS of power at 5500rpm and 148Nm of torque between 2000rpm and 4500rpm. The Fronx’s turbo petrol engine comes with 2 transmission options — a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Apart from the turbo petrol engine, Maruti Suzuki also offer the Fronx with the same 1.2L normal petrol engine as the Baleno. However, Maruti will only offer the 1.2L normal petrol engine with the first 3 variants of the Fronx — Sigma, Delta and Delta Plus. Maruti Suzuki have already started accepting bookings for the Fronx B2-segment crossover SUV. As we stated earlier, the Fronx rivals other small SUVs like the Tata Punch and Citroen C3. Maruti Suzuki are yet to announce the launch timeline for the Fronx. However, we expect the Fronx to go on sale in a couple of months.
