Maruti Suzuki Celerio Breezes Past 7 Lakh Sales Milestone (Press Release) | V3Cars
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has crossed the 7 lakh sales milestone in India. Currently in its second generation, the Celerio crossed the 7 lakh sales milestone in under 9 years. Let’s take a look at the Celerio’s journey in the Indian car market
Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Journey So Far
- The Maruti Suzuki Celerio was launched in 2014 as a replacement for the Maruti Suzuki A-Star
- The Celerio was launched with a 1.0L normal petrol engine (K10B) initially. Later in 2015, it received an 800cc diesel engine
- The diesel engine was an indigenously developed, 2-cylinder motor that put out 50PS of power and 125Nm of torque
- The Celerio diesel was discontinued as part of Maruti’s decision to stop selling diesel cars in India
- The second generation Celerio was launched in India in 2021. It is based on Maruti’s Heartect platform that also underpins other Maruti cars such as the WagonR and Ignis, among others
- The second generation Celerio received a revised 1.0L normal petrol engine (K10C) with Dualjet technology
- Like other hatchbacks from Maruti, the Celerio is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT)
- The hatchback is also available with a CNG option, albeit only with the manual transmission
- The Celerio competes against hatchbacks such as the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
- Early this year, Toyota launched the Vitz hatchback, which is essentially a rebadged Celerio, in South Africa
