Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG Launch in January | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2022 Celerio CNG in January. The Celerio is already the most fuel-efficient car in the country and we expect it to become the most fuel-efficient CNG offering in the country too. The Celerio CNG may share its powertrain with the WagonR CNG. It is unlikely to see Maruti Suzuki using the dual-jet petrol engine with the CNG models. Maruti Suzuki may offer the Celerio CNG with the mid-spec VXI and ZXI trims. Just like all the other Maruti Suzuki CNG cars, the CNG variants of the 2022 Celerio may also carry a similar price hike of Rs. 90,000 over the comparable petrol-only models.

In our opinion, offering the Celerio in the mid variants is a great move as the base variant is too basic while the top variant doesn’t add enough must-have features to warrant an upgrade. Moreover, the ZXI variant earned our top recommendation for being the most suitable variant for most buyers.

The Celerio CNG will become Maruti Suzuki’s first car launch of 2022. It may borrow a CNG-compatible K10B engine from the WagonR and S-Presso while the Celerio gets the newer K10C engine. The K10C engine makes 67PS of power and 89Nm of torque. When running on CNG, the K10B engine makes 60PS of power and 78Nm of torque. The Wagon-R CNG offers a claimed fuel economy of 32.52kmpkg and we expect the Celerio to deliver better figures because of the more aerodynamic body shape.

Maruti Suzuki currently leads the CNG segment and aims to build their presence further with the Celerio CNG. However, it would face fierce competition in form of Hyundai Santro CNG, Hyundai Grand i10 CNG and the upcoming Tata Tiago CNG.
