Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG Launch Likely Soon

Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG Listed On Maruti Suzuki Accessories Website | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki currently offer the widest portfolio of CNG cars in the country. Expanding their presence further, Maruti Suzuki are likely to launch the Brezza CNG soon. A new leak from Maruti Suzuki’s genuine parts website not only lists the Brezza manual CNG variants but also Brezza automatic CNG options. If that stands true, the new Brezza CNG will become the first CNG offering in the country to offer the convenience of an automatic transmission.

The website lists all the variants of the Brezza with the CNG option and that’s very unlikely. Maruti Suzuki offer their CNG cars in mid VXI variant and second-top ZXI variant. We do not expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the Brezza CNG in all the variants. Furthermore, we also doubt the possibility of the Brezza automatic as the Brezza uses a torque converter transmission and initially, we believe it’s viable to have a CNG automatic with an AMT transmission. Maruti Suzuki may have listed the variants on the parts website for testing purposes.

However, it’s no secret that Maruti Suzuki are working on the Brezza CNG and the launch could happen soon. While the Brezza now comes with a mild-hybrid powertrain with both manual and automatic transmission options, we are yet to learn whether Maruti Suzuki will offer the mild-hybrid system with the CNG or go ahead without it. The latter is more likely as the Ertiga CNG, which also uses a 1.5L petrol engine, doesn’t offer the mild-hybrid system.

In the Ertiga CNG, this engine produces 87PS of power at 5500rpm and 121Nm of torque at 4200rpm. The CNG option only comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox whereas the petrol variants can also be had with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Maruti Suzuki charge Rs. 95,000 for the CNG option over the corresponding petrol variants. Hence, we can expect a similar premium in the case of the Brezza CNG. Currently, no carmaker in the country offers a sub-compact SUV with a CNG option. However, Tata are working on the Nexon CNG and Kia are also testing the Sonet with a turbo petrol CNG powertrain.
